Should I buy a Caly 3?

#1

Post by DocWorkingday »

Hi everyone, I just found this forum recently and learned about the Caly 3. I've been carrying a Native for some months (my first Spyderco, great knife), and the Caly 3 seems in many ways like a spiffier Native. Is that about right? How do they compare in size and weight? Any reviews yet?

I'd love to see pics comparing the Caly3 and the Native...

Welcome aboard DWD! Normally I might politely point you towards the search function, but it is hard to produce comparitive pictures for a knife that is not yet released. In good time, we shall all enjoy the Caly 3, but for now we have to wait. :(

aero_student reports receiving his from NGK, I assume others have gotten theirs too.

I stand corrected by one day. My only excuse is I'm still trying to catch up on my reading after a hiatus. :o

Welcome to the Spyderco forums, Doc! The Caly III should be a great knife. Though similar to the Native in size, the ergonomics will be different. Not bad, just different. If you're on the fence, I suggest waiting untill they hit stores and handling one (if possibe before) you make a purchase.
Ask me where I got my awesome SUPERHAWK!

More like Mid-Cal now

Welcome Doc! Yes, I would recommend buying the Caly 3. The ergos are different as others have already pointed out but I don't think you'll be disappointed. I bought mine at the SFO last week and have been carrying since, I'm very happy with this knife's performance.

good luck

Hi DocWorkingday,
I like others think that the Caly 3 is going to be pretty much a perfect EDC. The Native was also my first Spyderco and it is still one of my favorites. I have been carrying the Para for several months now and I love it, but from what I have seen and heard, I do think that the Caly 3 just may replace it. It looks like a great knife indeed.

knivesplus has them for a beer under $100. I too would be interested in a comparison between the Native and the Caly3.

I promptly ordered it & total damage with s&h is $103.80.

I can't wait for the zdp-189 & carbon fiber model to be released.

I called New Graham today because I was on 'the list' and didn't get an update. Someone else called to cancel their preorder and now I'm getting a CalyIII.

I received my Caly3 few hours ago, she is amazing. This knife even more than I expected. I can not put it away. I love leaf shape full flat grind blade, finger choil with traction grooves, G10 comfortable handle, low riding wire clip. Everything just perfect.
I want to thank Sal and Spyderco, great job, even better than this.
