Cobra-hood/Wave Hybrid

#1

Post by cobrajoe »

I'm not sure how desirable either a wave or a cobra-hood on their respective spydie knives, but how about a cobra hood that stuck out far enough on the spine to be used as a wave?

I'm pretty sure I've heard that idea somewhere before, I think it could work, the only trouble is cobra hoods weren't very popular. I handled an ATR and I thought it handled fine but to me the cobra hood looks ugly. IIRC some people took the hoods off their ATRs and used them without.

Well, that style is now patented  and CS is using it...I still don't understand why that patent was issued, but this is not for me to decide...

Well, I guess it's good that I'm not the first to think of something like that, I was just thinking that if you are gonna screw something to the top of the spine, that it can do double duty.

Good idea CobraJoe! Funny thing is the Ti ATR and Waved Endura are my two favorites...it would be neat to combine them..that way they could be taken off for those who didnt like the features.

I had to take a look at the Cold Steel version of this, and I think it is different enough to avoid patent problems. The cobra hood is to help find the hole, while CS's "thumb plate" is the actual thumb stud. But then again, I'm not a lawyer, so I may be wrong.

Also, did you see CS's Black Talon? It looks exactly like a civilian!!!

I've seen CS's AK-47 it has a thumb plate that can be used for waving.

to me that knife reminds me a lot of The Jim Wagner Boker knife.

I wish Spyderco would make one like those.

As I understand it, the "....exactly like...." feature is a trademark of CS. And Michael, sadly yes. It seems that the fact that the plate sticks out to the side is sufficiently different from the wave  .
