Finally the blue wonder arrived at my doorstep! First impressions: very tightly fitted, like a new out of the box Scorpius or Persian.

I am also pleasantly surprised by the sharpness of the blade. I mean it's not my beloved full flat grind, nor is the sabre ground very high. The edge cuts better than my ZDP Calypso, but the Delica still has its factory edge and it hasn't cut much...yet.

I dislike the softer steel used for the outer layers of the ZDP Caly's laminate, they scratch oh so easily. I am anxious to see how this massive ZDP blade of the Delica works out. The blue is brighter than I remember. It's very close to the (VG-10) blue Delica III that came out a few years ago.

The clip comes off very quickly to be put on the 'correct' side of the handle, with the right torx driver. Again, no loctite, yes! I'm reluctant to take the knife apart, it's fitted very well. The tension and the action are just the way I like it best. An inspection with a E1L showed the bronze glimmer of PB washers! :D

I'm going to enjoy using and testing this one.

Are they left hand, tip up, fitted from the factory?

Nope, from the factory you get right-hand tip-up.

That's unusual or is it just the dealers I go to being that the Delicas are right handed, tip down?

BTW, the color is awesome. And if you check Ebay, you could probably make a profit ;)

I'm not sure, this is the second Delica 4 I have and both came right-hand tip-up. The Ocelots and Mini Manixes did come tip-down out of the box.

Selling mine for profit? I couldn't do it, a very good friend arranged so I could buy it. Plus, I plan on using it!

Great photography as always Wouter! Puts my feeble attempts to shame.

Good for you!. The ebay price crack me up, considering that my ZDP-189 is in my EDC rotation :) .

I think some type of 420 steel is used for the outer layers on the ZDP Calypso. I've been using my ZDP Calypso for cutting regular EDC type stuff, cardboard boxes, food, envelopes, wrapping and any type of packaging. I've noticed much more little scratches on the blade that start on the 420 layer and end abruptly on the ZDP core. No biggie, since it's a user. Still, it is something that surprised me. my regular using blades are made of either VG-10 or S30V steel that don't scratch that easily. The 420 steel is much softer, it dulls easily so it's also easier to scratch.

The ZDP Delica's blade is made 100% of the ZDP wondersteel, so it should be tough to scratch.

This is the one I plan to use as my ZDP-EDC. Though the ZDP Caly is doing a fine job right now.

Nice shots Wouter! Can't wait to get mine, I hope my pre-order wasn't too late...about 30 before me...
I'm getting addicted to the Delica 4 - I now have the normal, the waved and the trainer and I'm also gonna get the foliage green one. :)

Thanks for answering Wouter!

The scretching is the reason I don't EDC my Calypso brgd. Maybe I look some day for a Calypso in grey or black with VG-10.

You wrote from VG-10 and S30V - am I right, you can't compare with H-1 steel, because IMHO it also "scratches well" :o .

Anyway, hopefully solid ZDP-189 will work without it (user or not, it's better for the eyes :) )

Thanks Ted, I'm pretty much the same. I got some more Delica 4s coming in, regular pe and drone. I really want a waved Delica as well and the foliage green ones. :D
