OK, as you know, had an idiot take the bumper off the van in early april... van goes to SGI salvage in the next couple days... folks bought me the new wheels a few days early(partial grad gift, even though I have to pay them back in full).

'95 Pontiac Firefly, 202K km on it(still another 100K+ left before it dies, if not closer to 200K+), minimal rust though a few problems with latches(drivers door, hatch) and a slow oil leak.... overall not bad for 2K. Automatic, no power steering, though with a 1/2 car running a 3 cylinder 1litre engine there's really nothing to move.

Feels like I'm driving a lawnmower with doors though with all of 95hp on it. :D

dad's got a driver running one around the city for small packages, says he gets 38mpg on it as a courier vehicle.

I'll sure enjoy getting 20km/litre compared to the last vehicles...

VW, if it's the same as a Metro (Suziki Swift) you can definitely expect great gas mileage, even with an automatic. Mine were both standards. The first, an XFI, got 55mpg and the second over 45mpg. Amazing amount of headroom, legroom, and elbowroom, better than a lot of much larger cars. And, with the rear seat folded down, amazing cargo capacity too. Enjoy!

Get to take over the garage tomorrow when the folks go to work... see if I can't reset the door latch so it actually locks. Right now it takes about 5min of opening and closing to have it finally catch right. Same as the hatch, screw is either loose or stripped, catch moves back and forth, takes 2-3 tries to get it to catch. Shouldn't take me more than a couple hours to get it al set right.

Paul: seat folded down makes it a tad tricker to just toss stuff back there... bad habit from driving a minivan without seats back there, I just get in the toss my bags back.

spd: my escort was small too, I just pulled a miracle out of my *ss on that accident and walked away from it.

vincent: it may FEEL like a go-kart, but doesn't have a roll cage... yet :p

ghostrider: if I can get the latches fixed it should work quite well for the year or so I'll drive it.

considering that my schedual for the next year or so while I pay off my loan will be nocturnal at best... thats probably a good thing.

nothing like getting off work when the bars are all closed, going to bed when it gets light out, and getting up at the crack of noon...
