AAAAaaarrrggggghhhhh!!!!!!! :mad: :mad: :mad:

I'm afraid that's just how I feel! :eek: So far 42 hours in the last 3 days on duty! Got another 14+ hour shift starting in 7 hours time. I'm tired, irritable and have "chores" backing up all the time..............................

I shouldn't even be here, I have a uniform to press and boots to polish!!! :rolleyes:

The longest, uninterrupted shift that I've ever worked was 27 1/2 hours in a row. After the adrenaline wore off (around the 16-hour mark), it was delerium.

This really is insane... But did you know that here, in Quebec, doctors have 24 hrs shift in hospital? Imagine being operated on by someone who has been working for the past 20+ hours :eek:

OTOH

Imagine being a prisoner, being guard by a CO who hasn't slept for the past 20+ hours??? That calls for trouble as well...

That 27 1/2 hour shift I did was the beginning of a week-long raid on our prison back in 1995. We raided the place for drugs, weapons, and corruption. That was back in my sniping days.

These days, the drugs, corruption, weapons, and violence are back, and growing steadily.

That's ludicrous. The longest I ever had was 22 during the Christmas Holiday. But the difference between a marathon shift in a grocery store, and a marathon shift in a prison is that once fatigue hits me, I don't have to worry about being attacked by the Frosted Flakes.

Aren't there rules to protect you guys from this crap? You can't effectively do your job if you tired. Heck commercial airline pilots are not allowed to work more than 8 hours at a time, and must have at least 12 hours off before their next shift. Not sure if those numbers are accurate, but I'm pretty sure there is sucha policy. Why don't prison employees have such a policy?

The longest I've worked (including time to eat, use the restroom, and do required paperwork) was 72 hours...stupid mandatory overtime call-back in the middle of my rotation.

Lemme just say that I MAY NOT have been safe behind the wheel of the ambulance that third day. :eek:

Now we are getting close. Never join the US Navy, guys. The longest single uninterrupted stretch I did was 76 hours. Second longest was 74 straight. This is what is expected from those protecting our country. :rolleyes:
Needless to say, by the end of those shifts, learned reflex was in control, higher brain functions had disengaged. Oh, well, it was only a nuclear powerplant pushing around more firepower than was used in both world wars together :D

Longest I went in the Army was ~56 hours...you loose track. I DO remember going around on a sneaky pete and performing a security listen halt...I closed my eyes for just a second...when I opened them I was in a COMPLETELY different area (about 1/2 mile from the other point in hindsight)! :eek: :eek: :eek:

But I was still with the team so it as all good. Good thing it was just training though. Would have gotten my keester shot off.

Sure, there are rules against us working more than 16 hours....it's forbidden. But when a "State of Emergency" is declared, all the rules pretty much go out the window, and we do what we gotta do.

In reality, when it hits the fan and the action is rolling, I'd not want to be left out of the action anyway. Those are my brothers in there, and I'm experienced at dealing with....problems. I couldn't sit by and do nothing as good people were under duress.
