Just wanted to see how many people actually send their knives in, and why?

I had an SS Police that I sent in because I snapped off the tip at work. I was working night security. And I was assisting in closing a store. Well the person that locked the dorr, snapped off the key in the lock. I used my knife to get the piece of key out. But, it sacrficied the tip. So, I sent it in.

I sent my CF Millie in because of the lock. It was returned about a month later with the lock engaging properly. I was very pleased with the service. If I have a problem with another :spyder: , I will not hesitate to send that one in.

I sent a Police Model in and was well taken care of. I also sent a C55 Starmate in once for eccentric pivot adjustment. Not such a great experience. I later learned that the W&R department was going through changes at that time. I've since learned how to adjust Spyderco's eccentric pivots myself.

I have owned three factory re-tipped knives and they were all flawlessly done. If I ever snap a tip off, I know the folks in Golden are highly skilled in that area.

I've sent:
BFC Native - tip regrind and sharpen.
Mili - tip regrind.
UKPK - hard to open. Looked like washer was jammed in pivot.
All came back in great shape.

I have also received a Q clip in the mail for replacement.

Para Military returned to Golden in Jan 06. Had a little problem with the lock and closing was rather stiff. REturned about 3 weeks later in perfect condition. This was my second Para.

Last month picked up my delica 3 SE from sharnening and tip repair. My friend's delica 3 CE for sharpening and action repair. and one of the black belts from my tae Kwon-do class pro-grip needed to be sharpened and cleaned. Basicly when any of my friends need to have their :spyder: repaired for some reason they usually call me. I don't know if thats a good thing or a bad thing. :D

I've sent in a number of knives over the years for sharpening, then I finally got a Sharpmaker. ;)

The latest I sent off was a Gray Calypso Jr. It had this really weird dodo type grind at the tip, right out-of-the-box so....
I used the knife 'till it was dull, then dulled it some more at work cutting fiberglass  before sending it off. It came back with a new super nice (read even) grind! :D

I sent back my Crossbill’s PE and CE for a sharpening/re-grind. Both knives came with an uneven grind. The CE even had a one serration that was 40 degrees while the others were 30 degrees. After numerous hours on the diamond rods, I decided it was taking too long to put a decent bevel on them, and contacted W & R.

I can’t be certain about the time frame, but I think it was between 4-6 weeks when I got them back. Unfortunately, all they appeared to do was sharpen them at 40 degrees. Amanda explained to me that the byrd steel couldn’t handle the 30 degree angle, and that was the cause of the problem. She also told me that the byrd steel couldn’t get as sharp as the VG-10. Because they didn’t do anything about the uneven grind, there was no real improvement over when I sent them in. Actually worse since the CE is chisel ground at 30-40 degrees inclusive, and since they sharpened it at 40 degree inclusive, it now appeared to have a 50 degree angle on it, and the serrations were more rounded than before.

I resigned myself that I would have to solve the problem myself (and did), although the CE still has one serration at 40 degrees.
First they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not stand up, because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Sent them a Rainbow Spyderfly that had one very stiff pivot. Got it back a few weeks later, perfect.

I tried to get a clip for a ltwt Goddard, but they gave me an 800 number for the Spydie store. I haven't got around to calling, I'm worried it is going to cost money to get a new clip.
I have sent knives in for lock failure(Police, new Police was sent back to me), and a resharpen on my Delica(excellent job).

Clips don't cost very much, but since the model is discontinued you shouldn't put it off.

I've to claim only 2 spydies from >50; but we in Europa first send it back to our traders and only in special cases to Golden:

Delica FRN - strong blade play
Kopa Evrina - bad factory sharpening

Both were replaced :)

I claimed a 3rd one (Persian), but this was my misunderstanding/fault :o
