Centofante 4, my new beater knife

I was out shooting with some friends yesterday (pistol, rifle, shotgun, what a blast :D ). One guy wanted to borrow a knife to get out a shell that was jammed in his shotgun. I was reluctant, because I thought he might mess it up in the process. I finally handed over my Caly Jr. with much trepidation. Fortunately it came back to me unscathed, but it got me thinking.
From now on, I'm going to carry my Centofante 4 for just such occasions. It's a nice enough knife, but I just haven't bonded with it like my other :spyder: s. Plus, it's relatively inexpensive. If someone uses it to scrape their car battery terminals, it won't be too traumatic :D

I'm reluctant to loan my knives for such things. My leatherman I'm not so protective of probably because I wouldn't mind having an excuse to upgrade. Even then, I loan it only under certain circumstance. Bad enough that I carry one just for use around sheeple. I'm not about to carry a knife for others to use/abuse.
Just a theory.

You're a better man than me! The Cento 4 blade is kinda thin to be prying stuff with if need be. I beat the heck out of one of my SAK's when the call goes out. Just me though, to each his own.

Agreed - I tend to carry several with me and there is always one that is used as my "loaner" or beater. Usually, it's a Byrd Meadowlark, Ka-Bar Dozier Folding hunter or Bryd Crow. I was scraping paint off baseboards with my Crow earlier this week on a rental property I'm prepping and I was pretty impressed with how that blade held up. I scraped a "lot" of baseboards and edge help up fine :D

I'm certainly not going to encourage someone to abuse it  It's just the one I'd be least upset about if it gets messed up. It's still a nice :spyder: , though. I'd actually been thinking about giving it to a friend.
Hmmm. Maybe I should get a Byrd for this purpose, instead?

I have cut, pried, and scraped virtually anything cuttable pryable or scrapable in the past year with my police model and it is none the worse for wear. Provided I knew the person asking for it and their level of proficiency with a blade (and of course their intended purpose), I would probably lend it out for such things as removing jammed shells.

I mucked up the tip of my Police doing "field repair" of a pistol. A knife is not a screwdriver, a knife is not a screwdriver, a knife is not a screwdriver...

I was trying very hard to keep my Cent4 in good as condition as possible, as it was a gift and is rather 'gentlemanly', but i beat it up pretty good while i waited for the rest of his family to get back from their spa holiday to the factory (CO).
I dinged to dickens out of the clip, and when i got the rest of my :spyder: 's back, i touch up the Cent4 with some stove paint and set it to the side...
The Millie (with his trusty sidekick Leatherman) is the only knife that goes to the range, i think that's my TRUE beat 'em up blade.
