looking at picking up a reverse S office carry pocket knife. Leaning towards serrated...
not sure to look towards the cricket or the meerkat.
recommendations and experiences welcome as well as where to find these...
Thanks!

Cricket is much thinner and easy to carry in slacks/fits in a watch pocket perfectly.
Meerkat is just a cool little knife, with better ergos.
If you do a lot of cutting the ergos weigh in, otherwise I'd go with the Cricket.

For pocket carry, the Cricket is best. It was designed to carry as comfortable in your pocket as a riverside pebble, according to the Spyderco Story. I took the clip off of mine, added a lanyard and dropped it in my pocket. It worked great, though I replaced it with a Navigator II with the same modifications. I prefer the more conventional blade shape of the Navigator and the more solid feeling construction.

The Meerkat is one hot, overlooked knife. Even better with reverse S blade. Fits my big meaty hands pretty good so I have some decent control when cutting something. It's too bad it couldn't be redesigned with the top lock system so it could have another go with the buying public.

Listen to Zenheretic! The way it fits ones hand is toooo good to be true! :p For the way it's built I think it's quite a bargain. Of course, the only way to be sure is to get Both! :D

I agree with zen and steeldust about the Meerkat....great ergos that will feel more comfortable in the hand if you will be doing lots of cutting...versus the SS cricket....but then you factor in the Aus6 vs. VG10 steel as well as the thinner more discreet SS Cricket that fits neatly in your "change" pocket and you'll probably wind up getting both! :D

Just as my forespeakers already said, both are great knives and no matter which one you'll pick, it will serve you well.
The Meerkat is more bulky and the Phantom lock⢠is a really cool feature and quite a conversation piece, but the Cricket is quite a looker itself too. Not to mention it is very slim and it doubles as money clip. I'd lean towards the Cricket myself - shiny slim knives are my favorites

The Meerkat is set up with a deep pocket carry clip, as well. It hides nicely when clipped.

Those are two different things. Aus-6 vs VG-10? there is no comparisions.
Yes, if you cut a lot, the Meerkat has better egros, but you will have to sharpen it more often. And it is now out of stock, but quite easy to get... And quite heavy for its size. But what a fun little animal....
With all the love I have for the little Meerkat, I would suggest you go with the SS Cricket for office use...

I really love my Cricket....I just drop it in my pocket and go. Very sheeple freindly, too. I usually get..."aww that's cute" which turns into a "Man, that's cool!" when they witness the carnage and aftermath! It really is a great cutter. I cannot compare it to the Meerkat, since I've never used one.

Whatever you do, don't buy a reverse S Meerkat (until I get mine, that is!). I didn't really like the look of the Reverse S blade until I bought a Cricket and tried it. WOW! I love my Meerkat, and that reverse S blade can only make it better. I really think the Meerkat is the most underrated knife Spyderco has made.

They are both great knives(of course  )but the main diference is that the Meerkat has alot thicker handles and is a bit longer too but the blades are almost the same. The diference with the blades is that the curves on the Cricket's blade is a little more pronounced then the Meerkat.

If you can find one get yourself a golden meekkat, they are a much better steel and is built like a tank. I cant help but side with the majority when they say the meerkat is the most underated knife spyderco makes. it will be the next dodo soon enough.
