New Kid Talks Spydies

Hello Fellow Spydie Fans:
Just thought I would finally get around to checking in. I'm pretty new at ye olde knife hobby, but have really enjoyed myself so far.
In terms of Spydies, I now have four: the jigged-bone Kiwi, the SS Navigator 2, the new Mini-Persian, and the very new Volpe. My current fascination with Spydies is based on how ergonomically perfect they are (for the most part). The Kiwi, Navigator, and Mini-Persian fit perfectly in the hand and are great to use.
Though I enjoy the style/looks of the Volpe, I have to say that I do not find the ergonomics of this design to be up to par with the other knives described above. It just feels slightly awkward in the hand and the "index finger choil" on top of the blade just feels awkward.
I wonder what other folks think about the Volpe.
Cheers,
Mitch

Welcome to the forum.
I was actually wondering about the ergos of the Volpe, as it does look a little off, compared to typical Spydercos.
But then again, if you've got a 75mm Persian, it's going to be tough to live up to that standard

That and it's bigger cousin are definitely one of the best in terms of ergos.
Enjoy your stay :D

Welcome Mitch,
You've got some nice knives already. Volpe didn't make it on my wishlist in the first place and now it probably never will. I don't think many collectors have theirs already so there is no general opinion yet.

Welcome to the best place ont the oueb...
Now, grab a Persian full size to compare...
As for the Volpe, I found it a little bit too "european" for me...

Welcome to the forums, Mitch!
Hey Simon, what do you mean by that? I've read different reviews on it, some favorable, some not. Are the ergos that much different? I'm not a fan of the Shabaria, simply because of it's ergos. Any help would be great! :)

Welcome to the club. Nice knives you have there. I'm anxious to get a Mini Persian myself actually. I am not too keen on the Volpe, it's lacking a 50/50 choil for me.

Welcome to the party! I like what you brought. What I like best about these knives is that everyone, regardless of style or shape, is an honest-to-goodness cutting machine. Even if it only has one big serration on the blade.

Welcome Mitch, glad you are here and hope you have a nice time. If you like the Kiwi, you should try a Kopa. Awesome little knife!!

Just got my credit from NG for my two returned Volpes. Great people and great service. Could not imagine a knife would have such mediocre wood. And CR must be p.o.'ed with the reference to his liner lock style that was attempted on this knife. Both knives were so stiff to release the blade, well someone else can now enjoy my two returns. I have always kept my Spydercos and even was pleased to give them as gifts.

The Kopa is definitely on my list as well as the Spin and a Dodo if I can find one...

I recently bought a Volpe and I actually like the olivewood inlays...at least I find them attractive...and the flat ground blade was the "usual" Spydie-sharp...my biggest gripe with the Volpe is that disengaging the integral frame lock is somewhat difficult as the "liner" that you push your thumb against is very smooth and somewhat "tight" compared to my SS ATR or SS Cricket (maybe it would benefit from "jimping" but I guess that would detract from the Styling....which to me bit Bold/ Extravagant / Superfluous? but I kinda expect that with its Italian roots! ... I also like the laser cut spydie bug in the steel handle! For me this one's a keeper coz its got Personality!
