To Rich For My Blood

There was a gun show in town this weekend. Thought that I'd check it out and see if there were any deals on some Spidies. Boy was I wrong.
Someone had a PE Q with the bug blade and a blue handle. He wanted $350.00 for it!! The claim that there were only 75 of this color made. Not sure if that number is right or not. I knew that Q's were going up in value, didn't think that they were that high yet.

The Q handle was made in five colors, black is the most common, grey probably the next, red is less common, but still found occasionally on single knives. Blue and green seem to be the two rarest colors. Can't say I've ever seen one of either outside of a "color set". While Q prices tend to border on the obscene, the color sets are PE and have been selling for around the $500 mark, so $350 for just the blue one does seem excessive. Did it have an appropriately labeled (C35PBL) original white box? That MIGHT make it worth the asking price to some collectors.

Hi Deacon,

He didn't have the box displayed with the knife and I didn't ask any more questions after hearing the price.
I do have one of the Ducks Unlimited Q's with a forrest green handle.

Bruceter,
Since you are in CO it sounds like a RMBC Q. There were 75 of these engraved. If you didn't see the engraving on the bug and there was no letter with it, to me it would not be as valuable. Also the RMBC ones had the black boxes. Now for your DU Q  I would expect that to be more than the RMBC one. I have only seen one with the green handle (and I didn't think you were with one with it). I have seen pictures of one with a black handle. But never offered for sale.

Hi Chris,

The person selling this has had it at a couple of gun shows. Now that you mention it, I do remember him saying something about RMBC. I don't know if it was engraved or not. I didn't handle it,just looked at it thru the glass topped case.
As for the DU Q, I just lucked into it. I stopped by SFO one day and asked " So, have you found anything cool burried in the warehouse lately". Cody showed me two of the green DU Q's, and one left with me.

Bruceter,
Great find on that DU Q. I've probably spent the most time looking for one of those. I actually have a blade to one(cracked), but not a complete one. It has one of the better designs in the blade (IMHO). I even sent emails to all the DU Canada branch contacts trying to dig one up. I wonder how many were actually made vs published numbers.

I might be able to find out how many DU Q's were made. My dad is the president of DU! He's not so up on knives anymore. He loses all knives within about 3 weeks of getting them. I think half of them get left (or fall out of his pocket) in the garden.

Since he's not up on knives he may not have any idea about the DU Q. He's a busy man these days with lots of other things on his mind. Like being DU president while doing his other jobs!

Thanks Mox,
Not sure if you checked out the link in my sig line. I have tons of Q information and this would definitely be helpful. Just as a reference the Q's were made around 1997-2000.

Hi Mox,

It would be cool if you could find out how many DU Q's were produced.
Thought I would attach a quick scan of my Q's.

Bruce,
Nice picture. You have a solid blade too. Not a lot of those around either.
