I just received my Temperance and i LOVE it!. This is one great knife, a fantastic MBC knife. I do wonder how the tang looks like underneath the frn?
Is it a full tang that goes thrue the whole handle or a partial tail?
Anyone can throw one under an X ray machine?

I believe it is a partial tang underneath the FRN. I vaguely remember that being said a while back...

I second Scott's thoughts on the tang matter.
Congrats on the Temp! It is indeed a great knife. I have it in all it's known flavors and hope to get some seconds. FB and MBC fans really missed the boat on this model. I would be surprised if we didn't see the "Son of Temperence" in some future Sal FB design. It is simply to good to scrap.

vampyrewolf would be the guy to ask about this one, he may or may not have tried to take one apart

ok, now I'm being forced to defend myself... :p
WAY back when I picked up the temperance fixed I asked on here what the tang was...
Figured that because it didn't seem like much as far as balance that it could break easily, might need a 2nd for my BOB. Asked on here, and Sal has offered to beat Fred Perrin's "offer".
If someone can break a perrin under "normal" workload, Fred was gonna kiss them... Sal told me that if I broke the temperance under that same "normal" workload that he'd come up to see it rather than make me send it down.
it's a 1/3 tang, rat-tail with the handle injection molded around the tang, holes through and grooves on it.

I knew about Sal's offer, this is the first I heard of Perrin's...kind of a disincentive to announce a knife failure... :D

dunno if it was meant as a threat or a promise, but making fred fly over here would almost be worth breaking one :p

Gotta break it under normal use though, that's the catch.
Breaking either of them would be one **** of a challenge, you're better off trying to chip the tip. Snapping the tang just ain't gonna happen.
I got one, Love it!

I went on a knife-buying bender about a month ago and bought:
- Temperance
- Temperance Trainer
- Bill Moran Featherweight
- Ranger Knives RD-6 (satin, cocobolo, wood-cutting profile)
Since it was a *bender* I bought all of them! But even now when I'm ... uh ... better, I don't regret buying any of them.
Moran
The Moran is a nice size and lightweight. The handle is a little oddly-shaped but it doesn't bother me. It seems to be optimized for choking up on the blade (like it should have a choil).
Temperance
The Temerance is a great size and the handle is very ergonomic. I really like it. The thumb ramp (can't remember what those are called right now) is very comfortable. I wish the Moran had one. It's going to be a real cutter. I splurged on the trainer, seemed like it would be good to have around. All of my other trainers are folders or are unrealistic shapes (thick aluminum with corded handles).
Ranger RD-6
The RD-6 is amazing. The steel is about 5.5mm thick in on the spine! I read that it has more of a chopping shape so I had Justin make it with a thinner, wood-cutting profile. It's definitely scary strong but still will be a good cutter. It's a very good compromize between strength and cutting ability. The cocobolo handle is very nice. Looks classy and feels good. I highly recommend getting a Ranger. I ordered it directly from Justin. He's very nice, fast and the price was very reasonable ($125). It took him about 1.5 weeks to make it and get it to me from first my first email to him.
All-in-all I consider it a great knife-buying bender!
Sorry, no pics. I'm moving in 2 days and all of my stuff is in boxes.

Great post, i am tempted to get a trainer for the Temperance, but they seem to be rather scarce these days.
It has been on my belt since it arrives and i still love it.
The blade has some horizontal scratches from it's kydex sheath, but i guess it's normal from presentation.
This is a very wicked design. It looks like a camping knife or a kitchen knife with a belt sheath but it performs extremely well as an MBC knife.
It also performs well in pikal style. This has increased my interest in the bison and new :spyder: fixed blades.
Sadly the Kumo is considered a dagger where i live, but my Temperance is less fancy but way less high profile then the Kumo.

Funny thing is, that is probably the best price available.

I ordered mine from Spyderco. Just do it.

That is where I ordered mine. It is the cheapest for the Plain Edge. I believe you can find the Serrated Edge for cheaper, but not by much. Fast response too - Ordered mine between patients before lunch and got a shipping confirmation by e-mail before I closed up the Clinic at 5pm.

Especially when you factor in the free shipping.
