I don't know how appropriate it is, posting this here I mean, but for those of you who post both here and on bladeforums, James Mattis died on Sept. 13. There were those who thought that the original post might have just been a sick joke, but more than one source has confirmed that it is true. I haven't been on either forum very long, but James seemed to be a fine individual and very well liked by everyone there. His presence will be missed. I just thought that some of you would like to know.

Unfortunately it was no joke John. I was completely demolished, reading the post sent into the bladeforums by Mike T. Couldn´t believe it. I´m still in shock. He will be missed.

I can't believe it!
I never seen him but I like to read his
posts and scans in BF and SF, I bought
knife from him once, very kind person!
yes, he will be missed!

i'm still in shock. it's amazing how even when you've never met someone in person how much it affects you when they're suddenly taken away.

James was the true epitome of a gentleman. I will miss him greatly.

I am quite shocked, dissapointed, angry ...and very very sad. He will be greatly missed around here.

Wow! We just talked with James at the Blade Show West. We are in denial ---

James was a fine, kind, gentleman. His posts and pictures will be missed. James was "one of a kind" that we cannot replace. So sad.

Our family has its prayers and condolences for the Mattis family. Peace be with you.

Maybe Spyderco could inlay James' Chai/Life symbol into a forum knife, with the "Good Karma Cut" going to some worthy cause. I think that might be a really fitting remembrance to a good man.

I am totally devastated. I have just come back from a few days away and this is the last news I expected to receive. James was one of nature's true gentlemen. I have enjoyed his wit, wondered at his wisdom and been amazed at his generosity. In fact he was the first "knifenut" I emailed in person when I first joined the forums back in the days of recdotknives. I wish I had known him better as I feel there was much I could have learnt from him. My thoughts go to his family and friends.

Rest in peace, good friend, you will live in our memories for ever.

I was fortunate to meet James once and I will remember him for his great enthusiasim.
His love for quality cutlery was very contagious. I will miss his informative and humorous posts.
