Would you believe my brother in law, which ive known for the last ten years has had this piece in his safe for about the past ten years. He has never used it (NIB).

We went out last night and were talking about spydercos and next thing he pulls the goddard out his pocket and says "have you seen this one?' My jaw hit the ground, well it was the last time he saw it. It cost me a new para but its one i didn't have.

The micarta used on the Goddard model was very dark green, almost black. In fact it turns black with continued handling. Be careful with the clip. The screws tap directly into the micarta and strip very easily. I keep my Goddard in it's original softpouch and don't carry it very often because I'm afraid I'll snag the clip on something.

Interestingly I still don't "get" the handle design. It is uncomfortable in my opinion, especially the full size model. The front part, where your first finger goes, seems like it wants to be a choil but really isn't. So if you put that finger behind that place, your hand is now too far back for any sensible control. Nice looking knife and certainly a valuable addition to the collection, but not one I'd EDC.

Love that engraved signature. A touch of class.

I agree with 4077th. I also dont like the handle. I actually dont like the feel of the knife much at all. :( I do like the blade shape though. :)

Mainly i got it because C16 space on my personal spyderco collection list was empty. One down and too many to go.

Apparently some folks "understand" the handle shape. I remember an Ebay auction where a fellow was selling his medium sized micarta Goddard. I'm still kicking myself for not saving the photos to my hard drive. The knife had been through the mill. The serrations were GONE. The blade had been sharpened so many times that it was almost a straight (warncliff type) edge with no belly left. The micarta had deep gouges and scratches. In his description he said he personally carried the knife for many years. No doubt about that. I don't know if the clip was still attatched as the photos were of the front side of the knife, but it was interesting to see how well the knife held up under the abusive conditions it was seemingly subjected to. I'm assuming this dude liked the handle shape. :)

Hello badjujuboy, and a warm welcome to the Forum.

Is this your only :spyder: ? If so, you have a very controversial piece, judging from the above posts. How do you find the grip this knife ?

Mike, thanks for the welcome! Glad to be here. :)
I do have other Spydies. :D
I agree with the comments made about the handle on this one. Definitely not an EDC for me. It's also tip down so I wouldn't carry it anyway.

Ha ha, I'm not the only one who doesn't care for this handle... ;)

If I may, the handle shape is very similar to 2 capers I own. It almost forces you to work with the wrist bent upward while the hand is bent down. In this way, I could place my thumb over the the blade and get a more precise cut in tougher places or change grips and put the forefinger on the blade for delicate work. And I know, this info has nothng to do with the Goddard.
