I can't deside!!!!

I know I want a Military or a Wegner but I can't deside. What steal is better ATS-34 or CPM440V? What knife feels better built and opens smoother? Does it matter if the Military does not have liners? Thanx guys.

Toolin, this topic has been debated many time.

Both knives have liner locks. One of the only things I don't like about the Wegner is that IMO the liner is slightly difficult to retract. The Military is very easy to retract.

The Wegner has an 11mm hole. The Military has a 14mm hole. I suppose I just have a fat thumb, but the Wegner spyderhole seems a bit small for me.

The Wegner has a much more satisfying feel. The liners add weight and give you the Cadillac "thunk" that many people really enjoy. I like it so much, I got a Chinook. Sort of the "armored vehicle thunk" of the knife world.

I don't think the lack of liners on the Military has been a problem for anyone, it is very well engineered.

If you are looking for an EDC, the weight difference is significant. Good luck.

The only thing I want to add here -- since I have no experience with the Military -- is that individual knives within the models may well have differences. My Wegner is not difficult at all to move the lock bar over to unlock. It isn't the easiest one I have, but it is easier than those of a # of liner locks I own.

The Military does have one steel liner, but it is nested so that you have to hold the knife just right to see it.

i had that same question not to long ago and bought a wegner mainly due to feel, it is the best feeing knife i have ever used, and it opens lighting quick. i now also have a military and still use the wegner a conserdable amout more, in fact it is in my pocket right now. i happen to like the wieght and balance a bit more than the military. don't get me wrong the military is a great knife and the flat grind makes it very usefull i just find the size and ergonomics of the wegner more suited for my hand and uses.

make the desion eazy you could aways buy a serrated one and a plain edge on other and keep one in a handy spot, tool bag, glove compartment if you don't have the other.

Lotsa praises here on the Forums for the Wegner.. Its got heft, belly and a beautiful blade geometry. The Wegner's very solid and elegant.
For a guy like me who's got large hands, my choice will definitely be the military. Its got more belly, a good working steel and excellent blade geometry! Anyways, I own both the knives and found the millie to be perfect for daily carry...

If I remember correctly the military's lock bar sticks out too far and digs into your index finger...ouch

Buy the C48.

Toolin',

I have heard lotsa' people tell about their love for the Wegner, so it must be good.

I will say that the Military is excellent. I now own both the serrated and plain edged versions, and use them all the time. Of the two; the plain edge is more versatile.

I think both steels you mention are great (ATS-34 and CPM-440V).

The Military is strong, light, slim and opens like lightning. It also happens to be a very good looking knife.
