Harpy Question

Hello, I'm new to the forum and had a question. I am looking to buy a Harpy and saw a site that had a Harpy with G-10 handles. I didn't think Spyderco made it with this handle material since I didn't see it on their own online store. I know they make it in SS and Zytel. Is the G-10 one I saw the real thing?

The Harpy was made in SS and G-10 material.
I do not think it is made in G-10 anymore ???? The Zytel model is called the Merlin.
I've been looking for one in G-10 myself.

G-10 handle is discontinued. If you look on Ebay, you will find at least one, if not more than one G-10 Harpy for auction on a regular basis. Good luck.

Thanks for the input guys. After doing a little more research I found the harpies they sell on that site must have been older cause the stel they use is different from the newer ones they sell at the Spyderco online store. Grant here is the site if you are interested

Thanks again.

FL, grab a G10 Harpy if you can find one. They were discontinued because they were not popular with the masses but they are very highly regarded by the knifenuts here on the forums. I have one and like it very much. It is much more solid then the Merlin and the G10 gives a much better grip than a stainless handle. The steel in mine is ATS55 which is the same as the current versions. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the Link.
I liked the serrated Merlin because it is ambidexterous. I recently replaced it with a Matriarch (love it) but really like G-10
How difficult would it be to have the Harpy taped for lefty carry? Has anyone done it ??

Grant,
I don't think it would be possible as the G10 Harpy has a liner on the clip side only. Putting the clip on the other side would mean having the screws only supported by the G10 instead of the steel liner.

Against my better judgement, but since the topic is correct, I'll ask the question. Did Dr. Lector carry a SS or a G10 Harpy? There is nothing in the book (Hannibal, as if I have to explain) to indicate either and at the time I saw the movie I wasn't really aware of Spyderco, much less able to determine what the worlds favorite cannibal's EDC was. I tend to think G10 because SS would be so slippery, but OTOH, SS is very elegant, as the doctor was (When he wasn't savaging the locals).
Also, when he was at the gun show (not in the movie but in the book), he bought a "4 inch straight serrated blade". This diminsion roughly correspond to the Rescue/Mariner but not exactly, so I'm puzzled. Was Thomas Harris just being inexact or is there really a Spyderco model with these diminsions. He also bought a Civilian. Why didn't he make more use of the Civie, a perfect blade for a man of his tastes? Maybe to stay away from an 'X' rating .
Please forgive me if this question is in poor taste for this board and thanks for your reply.
