The Best Spydie for a Hurricane Is?
The Best Spydie for a Hurricane Is?
What's the best Spyderco knife for emergencies like hurricanes?
Assist I, That's a good one
I agree with ROCK about the Assist I. I keep one in my vehicle all the time. I am thinking about getting another one for backpacking, hunting and other activities. Also I have to plug my fav C-44 big Dyad. With 2 blades and both designed for EDC utility purposes I don't see why you wouldn't want to have one of them in case of emergency situation. See my "Disaster Preparedness" thread on the "off Topic" part of the Forum.
I also think that any blade with the H-1 blade steel might be appropriate for any emergency/survival kit. It will be interesting to see what Spyders might have been used during hurricane Katrina. :spyder:

Glad I'm too far north and inland for any real worries but from my memories of a couple bad ones years ago on Long Island... PE Worker first, nice needle-like tip for getting out the d@*m plywood splinters I that always seemed to get when boarding up windows. Yellow SE Atlantic Salt for the aftermath.

I second this, or is it third now. Definitely what I would want if I were a little further south.pjrocco wrote:Assist I

Too far in land to worry about huricanes, we still get plow winds though up to 120kph...
Who says you need a folder? temperance was nice and big, and sal's offer*/gaurentee on the strength should be enough...
*I asked if I should get a spare in case I broke mine wth the 1/3 tang... he says that if you break it in "normal" use he'd come fly to see it.

Why do people worry more if you argue with your voices than if you just talk with them? What about if you lose those arguements?
Slowly going crazy at work... they found a way to make the voices work too.

Same here Assist for emergency SAR, and the manix or military to open up cans of food.
This might sound stupid but when the storm reaches you, fill every recipient with water BEFORE the floods starts. Once the floods starts the electric pumps will shut down. Fill the bath, sink etc with fresh water, you can easely survive a week on a full bath of water. A good tip also is that the water in the flushtank of your toilet is filled with drinkable water! It might sound weird to drink from the watersupply in the tank but it's clean water.
For those who can still get online and read this, we are all praying for you!

All of them...
Since the house and, by default, your knife collection, may not be there when it's over, I think it's best to have all of them. :D That would definitely be enough to hold you down! But on a more serious note, I think I would want my Dodo; I just love that little thing.

I'd want something in H1 steel 'cause of the humidity and saltwater storm surges that accompany hurricanes;a hi visibility color like Yellow in case ya lose electricity...so I'd go with one of the Salt series (or a yellow handle Tasman Salt! :) ) if I was truly stuck in a hurricane disaster situation.
