Spyderco Collector Programme

#1

Post by UK KEN »

Hello All

A question I have wanted to ask for some time; at present, there are two options, either you sign up for every new model in which case you receive one of every new model or all variations which means you receive every variation of every knife produced by Spyderco.

The first option does not include sprint runs :( Therefore, when a sprint run is released I have to try to find the knife but am unable to buy my collector numbers. I would like to sign up for all variations but this can be a very expensive option. In the case of the Salsa, (I know that this is an extreme example) there were five different colours and a titanium version. There were three different blade styles so I would have received 18 different knives.

I wonder if it would be possible for the good folk at Spyderco to send out every three or even six months an order form to collectors listing all new knives available. Please do not think that I am complaining I simply feel that offering collectors a choice of the new models and sprint runs with their collector numbers before they are despatched to distributors would be a positive move.

I am not fully aware of how the knives are dealt with from production to distribution so it might well be the case that my suggestion is not feasible because of logistics or time constraints. I would be very interested to hear any suggestions as to a possible solution.

Regards, Ken

I hear you Ken, but the program might become a real monster to administrate if there were different runs of numbers for every variant. Might be "a bit" easier to add a third option of "new models and sprint runs only". I know how you feel, have a couple now I should list either on BF Exchange or eBay, and a few more due before the end of the month if the ones "now shipping" hit NGK by then that will go on the block as well.

"New models and sprint runs only" Now that would be a great option :D

If it is possible how many collectors would be interested?

i guess that it would only be for the rich and famous among us to get into the SCC, buying every model in every combination?
Wow man, that's like beeing on "autocollect" but i am shure you will need to open a running account at :spyder: to keep the bills flowing! :D
Sounds cool, but way too expensive for me.
An online kniferetailer would benefit from it, i guess, but even when he sells them he needs to sell them MSRP to break even, right?

Or do the SCC get a discount?

I think that would be be a very reasonable 3rd option. I am in the same boat Ken.

Oh, and BTW, don't you think it is strange that the Navigator 2 has a new SKU number but is considered a variation?

....That is one of the reasons I would appreciate the third option. :)

Might work for some folks, certainly sounds like it would not be overly difficult to administer, unless the sprint model came in more than one "flavor", like the R.

Far as the Nav II, still have a sneaking suspicion that when the SE version arrives it will be not have a V suffix on the number.

Excellent idea, I would prefer this one.
