marketing overhead?
They do look like they are well built. Why 2 glassbreaker tips? You'd think having 1 would work better providing more pressure in a smaller point.

Boot Clip and Kydex? I dont know how many have both of those. For kydex sheathed knives, look into Cold Steel, B********, CRKT, and The discontinued Spyderco Ronin or Perrin Bowie. If you hold on a second, I'll pull up some links.

The knife is an auto opener, and while I am far from an expert on these they always seem to be in the $300 plus range for nice one. Plus full MSRP can often be a little shocking. And as far as a fixed blade is concerned spyderco does have the ronin on sale. Which is supposed to be a very nice design.

Because they are one of the best autos made. I have handled quite a few, and they have 100% reliability in opening and locking, and are made to extremely close tolerances.

I don't think the price is too high at all.....they are in fact one of the best automatic knives made today, they are solid, and reliable, right up there with R. Dalton's automatics...both fine examples of quality auto knives...but they don't come cheap...IMHO...Worth every Dollar and Cent....Doc :D

Microtech is the best automatic knife you can buy. And that is an otf model, which is always more expensive because it is much more complex than a side opener.

That Microtech DA Auto would be classified as a switchblade. Imagine it would be TOTALLY illegal in Canada. Know it would be totally illegal here in New York state, unless you're a LEO or active duty military, and even most LEOs that have them here have them illegally, they just don't make a habit of arresting one another for things like that. :D In some states they are legal to own, but not to carry, and in a few places they are fully legal. Some less than scrupulous dealers can get VERY creative when it comes to defining "law enforcement personnel". Had one tell me I could legally own one because I work for a law enforcement agency - as a computer programmer! On the other hand, from everything I've ever heard, Microtech autos are extremely well made, and probably the best production autos on the market, so the price is not out of line with the quality and complexity.

I was always wondering why do they ask 600$ on a knife with 154CM blade and aluminium handles? I also heard that they jam much too oftenly and the mechanisms aren't more reliable that those NATO Military DA OTF POS you can by with a couple dollars in the fleamarkets :(

don't believe all the drama, they are **** fine knives. sure you will have the ocassional problem but they are very reliable and much better than the nato knives.

I am sure they are fine knives, but from my experience, the "occasional problem" happens when you need the knife most :( I'm an optimist with experience, you know ;) A Spydie never failed me, at least so far. :)
