Yeah got #79 Gunting and am very impressed, nice lill blade, wasnt the size I expected, from the pics I thought it would be larger(not the blade, the whole thing)

If I was to make changes tho, Id make the base of the handle around 1cm longer, just so I got a tad more sticking out, and at the top of the spear shaped blade, where its ground down to give it that gr8 shape, I would have given that ground down half ontop a edge, so opening it on your attacker would really give him a good cut on the arm.

Still, Im very happy with the blade and just need the tapes to arrive now.

Happy Hunting

Its a fair size, but when holding it I like having abit sticking out the bottom of my hand to use to whacking, like a shortstick, its big enough (I also have fairly large hands) but I would prefer just a lill bit extra out the bottom.
Personally the thing Id love the most is having one with a ground top section of the blade (where its ground down to give it that unique spear shape) sharpened to a razors edge.

I dont think the size is really a problem, suppose itll just take some getting used to.

Glad you got one..
the GUNTING is 5 1/8" inches long CLOSED- thats over 13cm...
When the GUNTING is in Tomahawk position it doesn't stick out both ends..it can't.
Otherwise you'd never get that snapping motion impact into your strikining..

When it's in Fist-Load position..ramp sticking out between first & middle fingers, there's a full top and butt exposed for striking with...
over 1/2" top n bottom
tomahawking motion out becomes Fist-Load upon recover and counter as your striking range changes..it goes from medium range to close range...

If its sharp on both sides its a dagger or dirk and ilegal in lots of places here in the USA to carry ( not to own!) With even false edged its too much for someplaces because it shows intent..
BUT the main reason is you cannot grab or lock with it if its sharp..
Escalation in force necessitates an ability to have blade open and still not cut..especially while trapping, locking, passing...

If you do a fast Kin-Op and "florette" back..you get a mean tip rip sharp or not...

Thanx for the replies guys, error was mine, wasnt holding it with the ramp between the index & middle finger, I understand reason for top not been sharp, but its just something I would like (love daggers).
Deon, got it from Gideon, that guy kicks @ss, the 1s I got are the collectors pieces for Mark and his bro at ramrod, because of the screwups in the ordering, ol Gideon got them to give me both #79 Gunting and Trainer.

Hi MaNcEr. Glad you received your knife.

Actually this is a bit or a problem and I need your help. We (Spyderco) screwed up the shipping when the Guntings were supposed to go to So Africa.

Because of the complaints of poor delivery, Marc (Ramrod) and his partner actually gave up their collector number pieces to help solve the problem. They have been collecting for years and now they are missing their collector number Guntings.

Soooo...I would like to ask you to give up your nunbered Gunting back to Ramrod, when the next shipment comes into So. Africa. I will offer you something in return (your choice) for this favor.

This will permit our collectors to maintain their collection without missing pieces.

Let me know your thoughts.

mmmmmmmmm, wellll I really loved the numbered pieces and wouldnt give em up literally for anything..BUT, since you've asked I will, Ill speak to Gideon and get him to give up the trainer #79 and Ill ship the blade up, I was going to ask Marc to pay for the insured postage but plans have changed, I will be shipping the blade up to Gideon of Pertinax who will deliver both blades to Marc.

Hey Sal, as sad as I am to let these pieces go, I must admit I feel releaved and quite happy about it, it was on my mind when I got the blade that some1 lost a number 79, i mean ****, as I told marc in the email I sent him about returning it, Id rather give up both kidneys than these pieces, but I know its a big loss to his collection and only a small gain to mine as I dont have that many numbered pieces, and as I have the utmost respect for yourself and your company Im more than happy to do this for you.
Just one thing, dont even try getting my Chin away from me,lol, I love that blade sooooooooooooooo

Thank you for the offer to give me something of my choice, man what a offer, Ill be honest, I'll glady return them even if I get nothing out of it and if I have to pay for postage again.

Kind regards

Finally got Marc in the hands round a hour ago, he said I can keep the blade until stock arrives.
Personally Id feel better shipping it off A.S.A.P, so it should be shipped 2morrow.

I hope I wont have to wait long for the new shipment to arrive, if I do its a sacrifice Im willing to make.

Im hoping to get my hands on a Mil once Ive got the Guntings, soon as my bank balance allows

Sal its a plesure helping you out in this situation, if you ever need anything from me, well you have my email address, call on me anytime.

Hope you are well

Kind Regards

Sal its the least I can do for you, you and the spyderco guys here have done more for me than any other company, I knew nothing of blades, about the locks before I got here, each time I couldnt understand something you or 1 of the forumnites where here to help.

Please do suprise me
As I say, Im willing to return them even if I get nothing out of it, its not the reason Im doing this, but Id treasure anything that is hand picked by yourself.

Many thanx Sal, I truely appreciate this from you.

Kind Regards

Hi Sal, I checked with Gideon yesterday and he says the Guntings got through to him safely, so Marc will have them as we speak.
