Newbie-Lansky Sharpening Procedure?

I am a newbie to the forum, and knife sharpening. I have a Tim Wegner Jr., and a Cricket, as well as a couple of Benchmades, and a Manix on the way.
I bought a Lansky "Deluxe" sharpening system with the 5 stones, rods, etc. Which stone do I use first, how many strokes, etc. before moving on to next stone for 154CM? 440C? CPM-S30V?

Well, my Lansky kit came with instructions. I followed them and it works great.
You get instructions with yours?
Amount of strokes per side will depend on if you are starting from scratch (rare) or if you are just touching up. It will also be different if you are reprofiling the edge. :eek:

I bought a Lansky kit, and I honestly don't care for it. I'm going to get a Sharpmaker soon and see what I think.

I have and use both the Lansky, and the Sharpmaker. On most of my knives, I'll use the lansky to reprofile at 17 deg, then use the sharpmaker at 20(40) deg, to set the edge. Works great for me. And to answer the question, it depends what your doing. If it's just a touch up, get a sharpmaker, nothing works better. To reprofile, use the lansky in back and forth motion, kinda like sawing. About five times back and forth each side should work, but really you have to eyeball it. If your knives are just kinda dull and need a touch up and all you have is the lansky, just use the fine stones at 20 deg. That should work, check it with a sharpie though.

Like Samhain73, I use the Lansky to profile à 17° and then, get the most wicked edge on the 204 Sharpmaker.
It's not that Lansky is bad, but the 204 gets the edge way further...
