Any electronics buffs out there?

Wondering if we have any electronics buffs who would know if and where I could find plans for building a "light fixture" that would consist of several LEDs run at low intesity and the circuitry for doing this with AC house current via a stepping down transformer, rectifier and filter.

What I'm looking to accomplish is something that I can mount in my display cabinets that will give soft, diffused light. Every commercial "undershelf" light that I've tried is too intense, most turn the cabinets into two large floor lamps. Cabinets are physically close together so am thinking a single "power supply" could service both. Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions on how to do this, or where to look for the info, would be appreciated.

My Malibu deck lights have bulbs available down to 4 watts and led replacements are available. 12v dimmers are also available.

hi Deacon,
have you considered rope light? i have used it in several display cases and IMHO looks real nice. i just tucked it behind the face, so only the light is visible. another plus; it's dimmable.

Paul - Sign in on the http://www.candlepowerforums.com go go to the McGizmo forum and look for a member by the name of Darell (Dickey). Check out his web site concerning LED lights. He is a very nice guy and a knowledgable LED light guy.
Good luck,
Jurphaas.

Thanks for the tips Chinook, Hanswurst, and Jurphaas. I guess I need to do some more research on this. Beginning to wonder if I might be better off waiting till late November when Christmas tree lights go on sale and seeing if I could run some of those on a dimmer. Good an excuse as any. For some reason I seem to keep putting off sending in my application for membership in "Procrastinators Anonymous".

Hello,

I was just going to suggest christmas lights. I don't know about you, but here, there seems to be a lot of R&D for those for the past 5 years since 2 or 3 new ways to consume electricity in a joyfull way is available every year...

I'm sure you will find something to suits your need...

Simon

BTW My first apartment, a decade ago, was lighted only with sets of christmas lights. Felt on vacation every day... ;)
