Wow, that's all I can say. Looks very Italian to me, the clean lines of a classic dagger.

Is there anything you can say about it?

I am sure I miss some good bargains on eBay as I only search "Spyderco", can't be bothered looking thru what seems like fifty million pages of knives on the off chance of finding something that slipped through the cracks. More power to you for having the patience and perserverance to find it!

Greencobra, here is some background story from Joyce and Sal about it...
the laguiole is a traditionnal design from south of France.

Spyderco Laguiole

Spyderco produced a Laguiole "style" knife about 8 years ago. It was a front lock folder designed by Dennis LeMaire. We produced it in Seki. Steel was GIN-1. We designed our own "bee" for the traditional look. Quality was excellent. Came in Plain or serrated. Custom made leather sheath also had the "bee" embossed on the sheath.

It was/is IMO the best quality Laguiole ever to hit the market. We actually lost quite a bit of $ in the project.

Dealer support wasn't there and the model was dropped. One of the Spyderco crew just purchased one of the remaining pcs at the last Spyderco "Crew sale" last week.

They were, however, quite expensive. As I remember, Over $130 retail + sheath.

Denis Lemaire was an creative French Canadian cutlery designer, maker, and friend of Spyderco. In the early '90s Spyderco made a French-style Laguiole model which Denis had engineered and designed. He was adept at producing innovative concepts and was well-acquainted with French influenced cutlery designs. A folder named the AKMA was one of his inventions and is produced today by Florinox Cutlery of Thiers, France.

The Spyderco Laguiole debuted as a high-tech version of a time-honored design. It featured:

~ A front lock (developed by Al Mar and Harvey McBurnette), the first ever lock-back Laguiole
~ A handle of black Micarta with brass liners
~ Blade steel was G-2
~ The traditional Laguiole "bee" found its' appearance underwent a subtle, buggy make-over
~ Notably absent were the Spyderco round hole and a pocket clip
~ Notably present, Spyderco serrations
~ It came with a tooled leather belt sheath
~ Spyderco's French design was manufactured under the Ramco label in Seki City, Japan
The Laguiole was discontinued in 1995-1996 and the MSRP at that time was $119.95, the sheath $19.95.

Strange knife, a French design, Americanized with serrations and made in Japan....

My only complaint, the micarta handle looks to much like cheap plastic. maybe I'll change that in the futur.

Deacon, I was a bit lucky on this one, the seller was selling other spydercos at the same time (the last PIG) and I checked his other items for sale, bingo! :)

nice catch. Have to say that I think Joyce's statement about Spyderc being the first to fit a backlock to a Laguiole is not accurate. I have two, both purchased in Nice in the late 1980s, that have backlocks. The lock bars are set at the rear of the grip and are an absolute PITA to unlock. That said there are many, many makers or this style of knife and it would be impossible to survey them all.

I agree about the scales, it's not a laguiole without beautiful blonde horn scales. Great looking piece otherwise.

I love the custom touches on this piece. Especially the way they did the finger grooves on top of the blade. All in all it has a very custom look. Very very impressive piece.

Senate, thanks for the info. Never saw one before and it's a looker. Love the bee detail, I think the eye is drawn right to it. So graceful too.

Well...I bought the last pair from the Spyderco factory outlet about two years back....

Moving in to the apartment today so no pics for now. I've got some 200 plus Spydies in several boxes and they haven't been fed for a couple of weeks. Could get nasty.

The Laguiole is such an elegant looking style of knife, it's nice to see one with a spyder in it's lineage.
