Hello Everybody:
I am knew to knives. I have been interested since last year. Earlier this year I bought my first knives:
Emerson Mini CQC-7B
Spyderco Delica
I also took a class with Steve Tarani (Edged Weapons Level 1)

My collection now includes:
Spyderco Scorpius
Spyderco Dodo
Spyderco Jester
Spyderco Salsa.

I have big chubby fingers and like to carry “Tip-Up”. My state permits 3” blades. But my municipal code sets the maximum length at 2.5”. Therefore the Dodo & Salsa should be OK. But I want more!
What can you recommend? With a big handle, “Tip-Up” and a blade with no more than 2.5”?

2.5 inches? That is quite a limiting factor. A quick check of the current offerings indicate that the Dragonfly and Karambit both fall into the categories you specified. If you can get around the tip-up limitation, the Kopa is also an option, as is the Cricket (which is one of my personal favorites), although both carry tip-down.

I'm drawing a blank but can agree with Dr. Lecter on the Dragonfly. I both own one and have large hands and it works for me. Although my EDC is the FRN Delica.

Welcome to the forum FRIZ. I experienced a similar problem when I first started looking for an EDC several years ago. Looking for a small, sub-three inch knife that fit full sized mitts. At the time, due to my lack of knowledge, it looked like I’d needed to spend above my means. Seemed like everyone was making knives to fit my hand, but the blades were all over 3” by 1/8” to ¼”. Spyderco has some nice offerings of which the good doctor has pretty much covered for you. Good luck.

The only other knife not mentioned by the others, that I can think of is the Almite coated Walker, IMO :spyder: finest 2.5" knife, all 4 of my fingers fit on the handle, but I got avg size mitts, liner lock, nice blade shape, the smoothest opening/closing :spyder: I own, handle is about as long as a Salsa

So far nobody mentioned the recentely discontinued Meerkat which has a nice handle for a small blade.

Welcome to the Spyderco Forum. Enjoy your stay here. I second the Meerkat suggestion. The Navigator is also a good choice (the new one is supposed to come in full flat grind) :) . Also, the Dragonfly or the Cricket are some little big knives. The Dragonfly handles could be a little to slim for your big hands though...

Hi Fritz and welcome. You may like the :spyder: co Pride or the :spyder: co Navigator? The Pride does not have a lock on it but the Navigator does. Both have a blade that's less than two and a half inches. And both are well made. :)

Hello, Friz, and welcome. I carry the Meerkat at all times. I have found it to be a very handy size, good handle, with a trick blade lock that will have most fooled. A pity it has been discontinued, but there seem to be plenty available on eBay, and from some stockists. NGK may still have some.

Welcome, I'd go for the Cricket. At first I thought "what the **** is such a small knife good for?" When I used it for the first time it became obvious that this small knife cuts big. I have the SS/PE VG10 version myself and it's scary sharp. I also have the Navigator G10/ GIN 1/SE. This is a great cutter too. You can store these knives where ever you want, unnoticed.
