Ok guys, I have a question. Which kind of handle do you prefer, steel, or those regular black handles [Sorry, I can't remember the name for it]? If you can, please respond immedialty.

FRN - Fiberglas Reinforced Nylon
G10
Steel
Titanium
Carbon Fiber
micarta
Aluminum

They are all desirable for one reason or another. All good, just diffeent.

i agree with sal are are good for diffent reason, peronaly like the look, feel and weight of the metal hanldes inparticual titium, how ever i bought a tim wegner with G-10 (matte black) scales specificaly to put on titium ones after using it i had to buy another because i liked the G-10 as well, expecially if it is wet or cold.

I must admit before my first spydie I prefered big solid handles (SS, Ti or brass). I was a bit worried when ordering the Miltary that it had a "plasticky" handle (G10), but after using it, it is definitly the right choice, the knife would have been way too heavy with a metal handle.
True G10 might not be the prettiest handle, but the Military is a working knife and the handle does it's job very well.

Functionally, I find the G-10 Handle material to be the lightest and the most comfotable. The S/S on my Mariner is useful when you want to tap in a nail that is sticking up (I got this from my friend Vito). By far, the beauty of the Carbon Fiber causes me to buy duplicates of knives I already own. The downside of G-10 and Carbon Fiber is the expense (which means the availability is limited too).

hey knife dude g-10 rules, but the new almite handles sure are tough but a tad slippery. either one are my favorite.

I carry FRN daily, My multi-tool is stainless(and doubles as a hammer for bike repair).

G-10 is a working handle...

We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare...

FRN ~ its light and durable. The really good ones are done in G-10. Micarta sorta added class to most Spydies, but who can argue with Stainless Steel? And to top it all, there's the Titanium one that is simply elegant.. Ooops! I forgot aluminium.. They're cool too! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

My preference is for grippiness and light weight. I own 1 knife with titanium handles. Were it not for the deep grooves in that handle, I might well feel it is slippery. Same for the one SS handled knife I own, only that has slots, not grooves.

I have one with Micarta, and 4 with aluminum handles, with cutouts or grooves on them. The majority of the knives I own have FRN/Zytel handles. I have 2 or 3 with G-10. The G-10 is probably the grippiest, but I love the handle on the new Calypso Jr. Ltwt I just got. That is certainly the best of the FRN-type handles I have.

I'm just too clumsy to be effective with slick handles. I try to keep my knives pretty sharp. Slips means my blood flows mostly. For potential self-defense situations, I look on slick handles as near suicidal. Simply can't understand why anyone would take such a risk. Add in sweat, blood, "gore" and one's knife is likely to go shooting around like a bar of wet soap.

I have 1 knife with Zytel handles that I carried the better part of 15 years. It is almost like new. Unless one beats it with hammers, I believe it is nearly indestructible. G- 10 is even better.

That's my $.02 worth.
