What knives does :spyder: make with a black coated blade? I know they offer it on the Military and Paramilitary, but are there any others? I'd love to see a black bladed Manix.

Off the top of my head: Endura, Delica and I'm sure I have seen a Native with a black blade somewhere.

Native just came out in Black, and I'm waiting for one of the now discontinued Black coated fixed Temperances.

2 types of black coatings

I would like to know if anyone knows the rundown on the 2 types of black blade coatings. There was a time back in the 90s that they were coating their blades with Titanium Nitride. Now I think they are coating their blades with either an epoxy type coating or some teflon based material. I know that the Titanium Nitride coated ones have long been discontinued. I would like to know what time scale they did them. :spyder:

Try searching for DLC. There are some posts on it a while back. It is the latest black coating. Pretty tough stuff too.

I have one of those Endura's with the titanium nitride black coatings back from the 90's...I can't vouch for the newer coatings but can say that my Endura was my edc for more than six years and the coating held up very well...Doc

Hey Dr. Snubnose!

One of my co-workers has an Endura SE integrated FRN Clip, black coat. I have known him for about 5 years now, and he has been using that C10 for EVERYTHING. I can second the fact that the finish DOES hold up well with these older models... ;)

God bless

I can see why blades would be black on tactical knives. I also understand why tool steel blades would be coated - corrosion protection.

But why other knives? A "coolness" factor?

Its the truth. I praise spyderco's work with the DLC, it is just good solid stuff.

You run a benchmade over some jewish rye and the coating will come off.

not released...

I guess we’ll have to wait to see if they’ll ever make production, but the Amsterdam show thread had 2 sweet pictures of all black A.T.R. and Karambit:

take care…

This is not entirely true Troll. I don't have any experience with Spyderco's coating and Benchmade's BT coating indeed leaves a lot to be desired, but the BC coating is an excellent coating.

BTW: It is spelled B-e-n-c-h-m-a-d-e.
