kratonproblem on stretch

#1

Post by cornelis »

This morning I bought a Spydeco Stretch. During the day I had the knive
in and out of my jeans pocket (just to look at it and playing with my new
toy) This evening I noticed that the kraton on the small side next to the shield was sleets. Does any of you know if this is normal due to the friction
of the kraton and the fabric of the jeans? There a little chips of the kraton coming of. Could this be a matter of " breaking in " ?
Please advice.
Cornelis.

Hi cornelis, and welcome to the Forum.

I've had a Stretch CE for several months and have EDC'd it quite a bit. I carry mine clipless in a front pants pocket. Like you, I found that the kraton did wear down a bit initially with pocket time. Actually, I was delighted that it did, since I found at first that the kraton on both sides of the handle made it too tacky when attempting to retrieve it from my pocket. With wear, it became much better. I don't think that you have any reason for concern. Enjoy your Stretch. It's seems to be highly under-rated, even here :D .

Hi Cornelis.

Welcome to the Spyderco forum.

I carry the Stretch quite a bit. I found the clip a little too tight to my liking and bent it out a tiny bit for less traction. Most, however, prefer the secure grip offered in the "stock" piece. I'm sure the kraton will "wear in" nicely.

The model was designed and built for long term every day carry.

Thanks Sal and Mariner.
The kraton was my only concern. I like the stretch a lot. Specialy the blade
geometry. It cuts like a razor!

One more question: Is the sign next to the thumbhole a monogram?

Hello Cornelis. I think you mean Sal Glesser's symbol. When you look at it you see the letters S, A and L in the monogram.

Hello Cornelis, welcome to the forums. It's always good to see another Dutch forumite join the fold. I like my stretch a lot, especially after I bent out the clip a little to make retrieval a little easier. That knife cuts dull better than most other knives do when sharp!
