Customized Ti Salsa

Thought you guys would enjoy these pics. I know a guy (Matt Cucchiara)that was customizing Chris Reeve Sebie's and I found out he can do just about anything that has a Titanium handle so I thought why not a Spyderco, and specifically the Ti Salsa came to mind. Below is what he came up with doing his trademark "Fizz treatment". I also had him heat treat the handles. I added the cord.

mchenrytl -
It sure makes a very nice knife even more beautiful. Thanks for shareing because it gives others ideas what they would like to do to there knives!
Did he have to take it apart to heat treat the handles? It appears to have a blue tint is this what happens when Ti is heated?
BTW- welcome to the forums!
thanks-
ken

Thanks all for the kind words. Matt did have to take it completely apart. And yes, the heat treating is what gives the circles or fizz their color, but it also tints the handle that bluish color. I asked Matt if he could just tint the fizz, but it's all or nothing. He can also just do the fizz without the heat treat. I thought about that, and it definitely looks cool (see link below), but I opted for some color. Don't consider this post an endorsment or anything, I'm just a collector that thought I would share. The link below is to other examples on Matt's website.

The cord I use is called "Accessory Cord" for rock climbing. Got the idea from my uncle who is into Benchmade knifes and rock climbing. The one in the picture is made by New England Ropes that I bought off eBay. Each model is cataloged by width, and in the picture is 3 mm thick cord. Below's a link to their site:

Thanks again for the kind posts, it was a fun project that I've been planning for awhile and I'm definitely pleased with the results.

Man I really like that. That's good stuff.
What a great job he did. Perfect color for the cord too :)

mchenrytl,
That is caffeine free, sugar free, carbonated and still so sweet. What is your special ingredient? I'll lift a glass to that mod, cheers Troy.

Very impressive piece of work mchenrytl. Can we assume the "fizz" makes the handle less slippery?

Hey that looks very good indeed! Anyone wants to offer up their Ti ATR for the good cause? :D So we can see what it can look like after this mod?

Very nice mod, thanks for showing.
This is the kind of thread I enjoy most, where novel/clever and beautiful ideas are shown.
What kind of colours are possible through heat treatment?
How about a Ti ATR mod next?
Even better, get a Ti Lum tanto, the scales are very plain and scream to be decorated. :D

Yeah, I agree.
Two of my fav :spyder: 's for pure simplicity and beauty are the Salsa and Meerkat, this really enhances the Salsa.
Fizzzzzzzzz

Great decoration ! Maybe its my eyes, but are the "fizz" bubbles raised bumps or depressions ?
Hint : Look at a close-up of the moon's surface, and focus on a crater. Now turn the pic upside down and the crater looks like a bump !
Cheers
