I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the drop-point version of the D'Allara (just like I've eagerly awaited so many other Spydies). I remember Sal posting that he was carrying a prototype. Are there any updates, many even a release date?

Yeah, I'm anxiously awaiting this too and I would love to hear any updates about when this model will be available. I'm also hoping that the demand for this model will be high and that Spyderco will consider putting out a mini version of it in the future as well.

Could someone kindly tell me what a "drop point" is?

David, you might want to take a look at Joe Talmadge's article on "Blade Geometry" on this page at BladeForums (might I suggest bookmarking that page for future reference too, the whole FAQ area there is a gold mine).

The Manix might be the best current example of a drop point :spyder: folder, the Moran FB2 is a classic example of that shape in a fixed blade.

Still trying to figure out the "why" of a drop point D'Allara. Or will it just share the D'Allara handle but be a completely different model with a different name for a different target market?

I used that name only because I'd seen it used before. In eMails with Sal, it sounds like the knife will use a slimmer version of the D'Allara handle and a drop point blade. I have no idea what the real name will be, but I'm hoping we have more news soon.
