Temperance?

#1

Post by JDEE »

I've had the opportunity to handle a Temperance FB and seems to me would make a good "bush utility". How tough is the Temperance eg could you chop saplings with it? I am not in the habit of doing such things with "good" knives but am looking for a small camp knife which may be called upon to do a bit of chopping now and then.

I have fixed blade big Temperance coming in the mail to me. Should be here in a day or 2. I got 2 Lil' Temperance folders and I was so blown away by how good of a knife it was I just decided I have to have the big fixed one too. I got a good deal from a :spyder: brother in Alaska for a Big Temperance and Perrin both. I have a fixed blade BOB LUM which has been a real blessing. No collector with this one. I plan on using the **** out of it. There are some Spyders that are not meant to be collectors. Just like both of my Lil' Temperances. I can't put them down so the big one is just going to have to join in. JD Spydo signing off for now :spyder:

Big Temp & Perrin

Post by JD Spydo »

I just got my FB05 Temperance and Perrin Bowie in the mail today and I am not at all disappointed. The sheaths on these 2 knives is just a super set up all the way. I am ashamed to admit that until here lately I had never done a serious checking on the fixed blade Spydies. I am very pleasantly surprised. I will be carrying the Big Temperance every time I go into the woods. I will be finding me a serrated version how. The Perrin I still need to study it a bit more but you can sure feel that Spyderco quality in it as well. :) :spyder: ;)

I have most variations of the Temperance FB and am big fan of the design. I think the Temp FB is a great camp knife, but I am not so sure about chopping saplings, since it’s a very lightweight knife. The blade is also a bit smallish for hardcore splitting logs and such. But for an allround field knife for the hiker it should be more than sufficient.

Thanks Guys. One of my customers is taking one up the North West of Oz fishing and agreed to write a test report for me. That country should test the Temperance out.

While browsing the discontinued items @ the SFO I came across the Temperance Black Blade (VG-10). This looks like a good all around medium size fixed blade knife.
