yojimbo for edc?
yojimbo for edc?
how does the yojimbo function for edc and utility?
Aloha karnigy!
I don't have one yet, but just the nature of that modified wharncliffe blade gives a hint of "large Xacto ability". So I would think it safe to assume it to be great for EDC utility.
God bless

Like most EDC applications, it depends on what you want to do with it. I have a Ronin, which I find a bit limiting as an EDC because of the perfectly straight blade. If I was breaking down cardboard all day, it would be great: probably the best "pierce then slice" blade that I have ever used. The lack of edge curve does make it limiting for food prep, smooth slicing, game prep.karnigy wrote:how does the yojimbo function for edc and utility?

Been EDC'ing my Yojimbo for the last few weeks. I have cut up carpet, trimmed veggies for the rabbit, used the handle to chip ice and lot more. It is a great utility folder. I am not a martial artist(does that make sense?) so SD and MBC are not my primary concerns(I learned how to run when I was a kid) It functions quite well. No I would not bring it hunting with me and skin or gut anything. It is like Chad said a large X-Acto blade. The handle is comfortable and it carries very well in the RF pocket of any of my pants. The Blue handle makes it very friendly looking. Hope this helps :D Take Care!!!

blade limits answer
Here in my great state of Missouri we are still blessed ( at least for now) with a 4 inch blade lenght limit for carrying folders. With that being said I am fully aware that in a lot of states where our :spyder: brothers & sisters live that some states have draconian blade limits even some as low as 2 & 1/2 inches. So therefore I would just make excellent sense to carry the Yojimbo with the blade being below 3 inches in length. Also I would encourage folks to take the Martial Bladecraft courses offered by Michael Janich who is the creator of this fine blade. I personally need a blade with at least a little curve in it which is why I trade off between the Renegade & Military. :)
Now the Lil' Temperance would be a nice small knife to accomodate these utterly ridiculous laws. Also the Salsa & Dodo are excellent choices for places with communist type blade laws.
Oh! one last thing. One of the last communiques I had with the nice lady Simona. She told me in the e-mail that there in her country you could carry all kinds of knives. It's funny the last time I looked Czechoslovakia was a communist country. But yet they keep telling us we are free  Please join the AKTI and let's get all of our rights back!!

There is no Czechoslovakia anymore. It was split into 2 nations, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, each of which, I think are democratic republics.
4" Blade limit is nice. I think its 3 (or less?) here in NYC, but I don't advertise and have never been bothered. Once I ditched a knife before going into a court room, but recovered it later through some good camouflage.

To the pessimist the glass is half empty, to the optimist the glass is half full, to the engineer its twice as big as it needs to be.
I stand corrected
Well "Out OF Gum" if I was wrong about the country where Simona lives I will stand corrected. I don't much keep up with what goes on overseas. But the whole point of my response ( and I hope you and the other Forumites will agree) is that this country is slowly but surely taking all of our GOD-given rights. I love this country which is why I want to improve it when ever possible. I am as much for your freedom Sir as I am for my own. My bigger point is that if we are going to call ourselves a free country then the laws ought to be consistent. I hope we are friends and hope you or no one else took my response wrong. I still say if we are competent, law abiding adults we ought to have what ever pocket knife we choose. PEACE The Yojimbo is a great knife to carry :)

Unless you're skinning otters with your EDC folder, the Yojimbo is a great folder. The handle locks right into hand and the wharncliffe-styled blade is a great cutter. I used to want both the Yojimbo and the Ronin, but there's no way that the Ronin's handle could compare. Now I want a training Yojimbo.
