Could the Manix be the One?

#1

Post by KBR »

I've been carrying my Military for quite a while now, other folders that I have tried to rotate in my EDC don't stay in my pocket very long because the Millie soon finds its' way back. I have to say that it is my favorite Spydie.

However, I've done quite a bit of research on the Manix and because this bug has me so wound up, I just HAD to order a PE today from New Graham. :D Even though the Military is, and has been, my fav Spydie to date, the Manix really appeals to me in all aspects. From blade shape, to G10 scales with liners(for a little heft), to S30V steel.....it is very highly possible that the Manix will be the One to relieve my Millie from EDC duty.

Now the hard part.....the waiting....... :(

Very possible Mario, depends on what you want/need/like/dislike. Neither really fits that role for me, but I can appreciate the things that make both of them attractive to others. The Manix is more compact lengthwise, but somewhat thicker and considerably heavier. Thinner knives ride nice in the pocket, thicker ones are more comfortable to hold for long periods. Don't you hate having to make choices like that. While the Manix action is super smooth, it is nowhere near as "light" as that of the Military (which comes way too close to meeting the NY definition of a gravity knife for me to be comfortable carrying). What you get in return for the extra weight is a sense of indestructablility. The Manix, like the Chinook II, gives me a feeling of total confidence.

Hope your wait is a short one!

Your going to like the Manix. Mine is CE version and I have to say a great knife. I generally do not like or carry lock backs but this one on the Manix has my trust. It will not fail. The thing locks up with a WHACK sound thats really cool. I always check lock backs for the annoying verticle play and I am happy to report the Manix has zero.

I have been using it in EDC rotation, I generally carry two blades on my a smaller one and a BIG folder. So today I am carrying my Para and the Manix. Other days its Emerson Commander and Para or CQC-7A Emerson and the Manix.

My Manix has seen some very hard use, the knife remains very solid.

No sign of rust on the blade and it has been very easy to re-sharpen on the 204 it was a breeze.

I also can tell you the tip is very strong, more so than the Milli or the Para. I dug through aquarium rocks in a bucket to find a piece of a filter turbulator that fell into the tank while I was changing the rocks. I did not want to stick my hands in the rocks so I sifted through them with the Manix. Except for a some marks on the blade you can't tell I did it. I like the finish of this knife.

S30V steel is great also.

To sum this up the Manix is keeper for me. Great knife!

I've got to try out a Manix one of these days. It looks like it has everything I like about the Chinook without the things I don't. I don't like that upswept blade on the Chinook, so the blade shape of the Manix appeals to me a lot more. Jon, you must have some huge pockets carying a Paramilitary and a Manix at the same time. I barely have room for my SAK and my Native and still have room for my keys and other stuff. I guess I'm too much like a woman; carrying everything around with me all the time. I need one of those "European Carryalls" like Jerry Seinfeld had.

Lets see everything I carry and where it is....

Para Military Right back pocket, Manix in right front pocket.
Sure-Fire 6P in Eagle Industries Pouch on belt left side. Spare Mag for SIG P239 behind flashlight. SIG P239 IWB in Desantis holster right rear hip.

Keys go on D-Ring with lanyard clip to belt loop.

Wallet in jacket, or in side pocket on cargo pants. I usually use a cover garment i.e. vest, fleece vest, jacket or winter gear to cover.

Oh yeah one more thing.

Fox OC spray in left pocket.

A great day.

Manix, additional carry

#6

Post by rastus »

Hello all, I've been lookin real hard aat the Manix. I read somewhere that it can be carried tip up or down-- is that correct? (prefer tip up)
Also, I used to make fun of people who carried belt pouches, but, I've carried the nite-eyes (mag light, multi tool, small screwdriver, drip punch) and lately a Sheffield pouch with the above plus a multi-driver (bits:asst. flat and phillips hed, torx, and 1/4" socket adapter) for about 5 years. The sheffield is only slightly bigger then the nite-eyes.
I carry the OD Delica R-front and a Vesuvious R-rear but only because my Endura and Calypso jr.(re-drilled for tip-up carry) SE's where stolen while I was in the hospital  .
I will be getting another Kel Tec 3AT to fit the pocket holsters I made; Weather permitting I carry a SigPro 2340 in 357sig
I'll be getting another Endura and possibly the Manix When $ is a bit better.

Peace through superior blade power :spyder:
Peace through superior fire power ;)
Thanks,
Tom

Hi Rastus, welcome to the forum. The Manix is drilled and tapped at all four corners so you can set it up for whatever suits you best. Some folks have reported needing to heat the clip screws before they would turn, mine did not have that problem. Pouch carry is certainly one valid option to consider, especially with relatively large knives like the Manix. I have, on a couple occasions, carried mine clipped inside my shoulder bag, yet another carry option for those who use one.

The Manix may actually be heavier than a Military, but in my hand and pocket it feels equally heavy. The weight distribution is ecxcellent on that model. It has replaced the Military for me, mostly for its lefty friendliness and locking system. Cutting-wise it performs only marginally worse (in felt resistance), but you get a stronger tip in the Manix. The grip is also more comfy and secure with the Manix. A downsized Manix would be very cool for “open urban carry and use”. And achieving similar lock-stength in a smaller handle would be a challenge for the engineers right? Gotta keep them challenged too ;) There, my totally selfless request for a mini-manix! ;)
