My 1st Spyderco - What will it be?

Hi everybody.

I have been reading much on the Gunting, Military, and the Chinook because these three have my eye for the CPM-440V steel and overall looks. Which is the hottest at this time? I can only purchase one, I want it to be the most sought after one!

Oh, I forgot to ask. What country is the Gunting made in? I know the Military and the Chinook are USA made. And, what is the blade thickness? Is it 5/32" like the Military and Chinook or is it the standard 1/8"?

Made In Japan and the blade is 1/8" thick.
The Chinook and the Military are both made in the USA and the blades are 5/32" in thickness.

The Gunting blade is 1/8" thick but, I think it has always been made in the US. Sal is that still correct?

Thank you for that input. I think I will now narrow it down to either the Military or the Chinook. I like the thicker blades.
Which one should it be?

Depends what you want to use the knife for. The Chinook is probably better for MBC and would make an excellent heavy duty camp knife. However my preference would be for the Military as I think it is more versatile. It is lighter, making it more comfortable to carry and I much prefer the performance of flat ground blades.

clay i notice your prefrance for the flat ground how does that affect the cut?

I like the heft and shape of the military, but it's about 1 inch too long for me to buy it for EDC.

I plan to pick up a chinnok, for a camp knife. It is heavy, small enough for EDC, and seems pretty durable(but then again, it is MBC rated isn't it?, sal?).

All spydies have both advantages and disadvantages. It all depends on the use planed out for your knife.

Wolf, yes, the Chinook and the Gunting have MBC rated locks. (This is a Spyderco rating system and in no way is intended to make any claims for other knife companies).

VampyreWolf -- unable to resist asking if you've perchance considered buying trousers with deeper pockets? Or, more economical, how about devoting one pocket entirely to the knife, and simply cut the bottom out of the pocket? (Ahem. I don't know if the Military has a reversible clip, or is tip-up or down. If the latter, it might be wise to choose the pocket opposite your preferred side for keeping the old gonads, what?)

Stare, most people think I'm crazy, but this is my EDC collection:
-Delica, Small of back, right side
-Cricket, IWB(appendix)
-Ladybug, Left front pocket
-Multi-tool, on back of right hip
-Screwdriver bits for multi-tool, behind that, covering the Delica
-Allenkeys for my bike, same set of beltloops, farthest to the center.

And now I just got myself a 5" bootknife this week.

I wear CombatBoots and fatigues(military clothing) as normal clothing. I look odd in jeans. I still have space on the left side, and can put about 2 knives(fixed blade) on this side. I also have my right pocket.

I haven't lost a knife yet like this, after 2 yrs of carrying around the belt.
