Movie Suggestions:)

#1

Post by CKE »

Well, I only have one more radiation treatment and my mouth feels like I drank a cup o boiling water...my throat hurts too. I am still cautious about low blood counts after my last chemo too. I am home bound for at least another week or two. So esteemed Spyder folk:
Got any good movie suggestions? It only takes a few hours to read what my fav three forums have to offer, after that it is TV or movie time. I will be honest TV sucks now...where have all the good programs gone? I watched Commando today with Arnie. You have to love this movie, Arnie beats an entire army and never reloads once  It ends with a knife fight to boot, does not get much better than that. Think Predator will be next....

So seen any good flicks lately? Take Care and hope everyone is having a great weekend :)

-Manchurian candidate
-Dodgeball
-Chronicles of Riddick

take care!

Gave up on TV years ago, only use my set for watching DVDs and tapes, sorry to hear it sucks north of the border too. Just watched Predator the other day. Finally had to break down and buy the DVD, wore out the VHS tape, will do the same with Commando as soon as I a DVD of it in the store. Have enjoyed a few others lately too...

The Italian Job - good plot, super car chases.

Transporter - the premise is absurd, but the action is so good you can overlook that.

Dreamcatcher - IMHO, the best Stephen King movie since the original version of The Shining.

Once Upon a Time In Mexico - Canada has produced some fine performers. However, Johnny Depp is NOT one of them, and I normally avoid any movie with him in it, but this one is so bad, it's good.

Deacon,

Hope you're talking about the original! :D

Craig,

I went through the old tape cupboard a couple of weeks ago after night duty, the guy across the street has some heavy duty re-modelling done, not good for sleep patterns. A couple of oldies but goodies,

Grosse Point Blank. Quigley Down Under. Legends of the Fall. Starship Troopers!!

Just got King Arthur as a gift........Oooooohhh BIG knives!!

Take care,

Simon.

Aloha Craig!

Good to hear from you! Movies eh? Seriously my brother, try:

ANY Marx Brothers flick you can find! ('specially Duck Soup)

Last Samurai

Out Of Time

Return of the Dragon or Enter the Dragon

Fist of Legend (Jet Li)

Samurai I, II, and III (This stars Toshiro Mifune, as he portrays Miyamoto Musashi)

AND IF you can find this flick, it's all in Japanese, "AZUMI".

I dunno if they have this for rent, but "Gospel of John" and of course, "The Passion"...

God bless you bro! ;)

Since you got lots of time to burn, start with "Lawrence of Arabia" and "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly". :)

For humour I recommend:
"Frankenstein Junior" (Mel Brooks)
"The Pink Panther Collection"

easy viewing:
"Lock, stock & two smoking barrels"
"Snatch"
"Fight Club"
(don't these feel like a trilogy though they aren't?)
for flavour add "The Boondock Saints"
Top it off with "Payback" (Mel Gibson at his coolest)

something cool, but serious:
"Ghost Dog" (Jim Jarmush movie starring Forrest Whittaker)
"Brother" (japanese movie legend Takeshi Kitano)

Fantasy, SciFi etc.:
can't beat "The Lord of the Rings", of course
"Bladerunner" - even if you know it, watch it again!
the "Indiana Jones Collection" should burn some time
"Spirited Away" is a very nice Anime

If you got the energy, watch all the X-Files.

Since you like Schwarzenegger, how about "Conan", that's got big knives... :p

I consider all of these a must see and am sure you'll like them.
So, relax on the sofa and don't forget to stock up on movie snacks. :)

Enjoy and get well fast!

Daywalker reminds me that one of the best movie of 2004 was a Korean one:

OLD BOY

One of the craziest film I've ever seen!!
A guy is kidnapped and held in a private housing cell for 15 years. Upon his release, he is given one task by his captor: to find out the reasons why.

Don't read reviews on the web as you'll get spoilers that will ruin the story and the end!

Watch it, you won't regret it!

anyone else have seen it?

A few of my old favorites are:
--Glory. It's about the 54th All-Black Massuchusetts regiment in the Civil War. Awesome movie!!!
--The Band of Brothers Series. This is the best WWII flick you'll ever watch, because the series closely mirrors the actual events so close it's scary.
--Blackhawk Down.
--The Outlaw Josey Wales. Clint at his best.
--Pale Rider. Clint at his bestest.

I recommend "I, Robot" as a must-see. I watched it over this week-end past with my Lady, and we were both very impressed.

I beg to differ. The high pitched buzzing you heard during the whole movie was Asimov rotating in his grave. ]http://www.asimovonline.com/[/url]
(CAUTION: SPOILERS!)
Asimov had higher standards of storytelling, so now it's only an average action movie. Watch it for fun, though, and sorry for the rant, couldn't resist. I am a SciFi fan and was quite disappointed.

I'm not even going to watch I, Robot... it's like trying to put shakespeare on the screen... IT JUST CAN'T BE DONE!

I keep hunting for books by asimov, possibly the best scientific mind and sci fi writer that we've lost.

While we're at the subject of movies, every year me and a couple of friends go to the All Night Horror Show. That's 4 horror-movies in a theater, starting at 00:00 to 08:00. However, this year there's no show, so we're arranging one ourselves.
The first one on the list so far is The Grudge.
Anybody got good suggestions for really frightening horror/thriller stuff? We've seen all the major Hollywood stuff, but would like to find some creepy unknown stuff, or some new 2005 stuff. We prefer the scary stuff over the bloody stuff.
Thanks,
Ted
