Dodo clip ambidextrous?

Hey there,

First post on the forums! Yeehaaaa!

Anyway, I am relatively new to the Spyerco knives, my EDC is an Endura since the early summer.

I just happened on a Dodo today and grabbed it due to its compact shape and good feel, and its supposed right/left carry (I'm a lefty). The problem is that when I tryed to switch the clip to the other side I very easily snapped the head off the hex keyed bolt that attaches it. It looks to be lock-tighted.
Is this normal or possibly just a bad screw? I assume it is meant to be switchable since the clip fits in either side.

Welcome to the forums! :)

I am a Lefty also and I own a Dodo. There should be no factory loctite on that fastener. Even if there was loctite, the loctite should have loosened before the fastener snapped. I have switched mine side to side several times due to the other blades I am rotating for EDC.
Call warranty and describe the problem and they'll get you a new piece sent out. Was this a brand new knife?

Up in Canada I have not seen a Dodo in a retail store (other than mail order) so I saw this one on EBay, the guy was near where I work, and I picked it up for $60 CAD. It is supposed to be brand new (and looks it), but I think I got slightly taken. He must have busted the clip off it before and glued it on or something.

I will see if I can order (buy) a replacement screw. Until then I will look for a small stainless bolt I can use, because I really want to carry this thing!

I think Spyderco should do something about the screws, the don't match the quality of the rest of the knife... :o

Spyderco rocks!
Called up the warranty dept. (talked to Amanda) and described how and where I bought the knife and the problem and they are sending me out a new screw no charge.
Not even the original owner and they still honour the warranty, very impressed.

Welcome to the Spyderco Forum Burt!!! Great to see another Canuck on the board. You will find Spyderco very good to deal with. With an Endura and Dodo you are well on your way. Be careful the addiction is very strong...who am I kidding, you are already addicted :) Take Care and stick around this is THE place to be for Spydie talk and info.

LeBaron's is having a "no tax" sale this week and has just recently dropped the prices on many Spyderco models. I'm going tomorrow. CKE, you're right, I am now fully involved... :D

It is worth the effort Burtess. Possibly the best utility blade I have ever used.

Welcome to the forum!

I had a similar problem with my Dodo, first week I had it I stripped the screws for the clip on both sides :o Just can't leave well enough alone! I can get it off with a little work, when the clip gets too loose, I'll call for a whole new assembly, I got the right wrench for the screws but it still stripped, oh well minor problem. Cheers, Rob
