Post by CKE »

Those who have a Spyderfly...are the handles held on by screws or pivots?? As in, can you take the handles off and reassemble then??? Also, is it difficult or easy in your opinion??? Thanks :)

They are attached by screws but I am not sure how hard it would be to take them out.

From what I can tell the pivot screws are in there. You'll have to buy the right sized punch and be willing to pound on them to get them out. you can take the screws out and the knife will hold togther like nothing is missing.

Each pivot is comprised of a #9 Torx head screw and a D shaped hollow treaded bolt which serves as the pivot pin. The handles themselves have D shaped cutouts which match those bolts, so the bolts do not rotate when you unscrew the screw. That makes the screws and bolts relatively easy to remove. BUT, on each side of the blade, between it and the handle, is a metal washer. These washers are an extremely tight fit and trying to reassemble the handle-washer-blade-washer-handle sandwich MIGHT be a real challenge. I chickened out, so it took me "only" about 20 minutes to get the washers and bolt lined up again. I'd venture that it depends on how good your mechanical skills are, mine have degenerated to the point where I'm pretty much a total klutz.
