The Gunting clip, and one other questions...

What is the purpose of the clip design on the Gunting? I understand placement but not the size, shape, and, the indentation on the clip. Also what are the two indentations opposite each other for?

Ehh, supposed to be Thorin... : )

I am sure Bram can better explain this concept, but it is my understanding that the concept behind the clip was to make it very easy to spin from foward grip to reverse grip and back quickly and easily. A concept that works very well in practice I might add!!!

The indentation in the spoon clip, as well as the matching dimple on the opposite side, allow you to quickly spin the Gunting from forward to reverse grip and back again by giving a secure index for your thumb and middle finger during the spin.

I've found that the width and shape of the clip also makes it much more comfortable when gripping the knife than the typical narrow clip.

The only downside of the clip is that it's size makes it stand out pretty bad when it's clipped to your pocket. I have a black Gunting clip on order that I hope will improve on that.

Ric,
I have seen the shiny clips compared to the black clipped ones (like mine) and there is a heck of a difference. In my opinion, it stands out alot less (unless you are wearing khakis or light colored cloths).
Good luck,
Matt

thanks guys..you covered it nicely..
Of course I personally think the black clips just don't look right..LOL..

Its the indexing point of the knife for spins..the spoon shape allows your finger to slide from the shallow part right into the deep part as your thumb locks into the indexing circle...
then forward to revrse and back..
the spoon of the clip is the balance point for twirls as well.

I agree that the black clip probably isn't going to look as "classy" as the black clip, but I seriously have at least 3 people a day say something like "that's a big knife!" when I have the Gunting clipped in my pocket.

Whoa..I almost forgot..Poppa Spyder could be really mad at me..in case you hadn't noticed the main purpose of the clip is to keep it accessible in your pocket...
and the GUNTING clip does that without an extended or protruding edge as in most clips thanks to the spoon shape...
Ever catch the edge of your pocket clip on something and "spring" the clip ..????
BOOIIINNNGGG and the clip needed to be rebent

Hmmmm maybe cause it looks cool?
or maybe cause Poppa Spyders exact words were for me - us, the R&D team with me @ lunch to come up with a really unique clip....designed for the GUNTING....
and I was sitting @ the table doing dexterity drills with a spoon cause they had taken away our table lunch knives.......

BRAM, do you really think, in a room full of Spydie carriers, that you would need table knives? I mean, don't you have an eating knife on you somewhere?

I am so glad that I found the new MBC forum. I was wondering where you all would surface after Blade Forums. Folks, where can I order a Black Clip for my gunting?

we get strange looks as we all play with knives..especially our SPYDERCO ones....and by playing with the table ware we can't accidently cut ourselves..ROFL...
