Edc???

#1

Post by severedthumbs »

Bonjour, I have religiously carried Microtech for the past 6 years and I am now looking for a new edc. I am leaning towards the Native. I really like S30V and the way the knife carries in the pocket. Any opinions from those more experienced in Spyderco would be appreciated. Thanks

Well, ya' gotta ask yourself : "which Microtech?" If it was a SOCOM
or mini SOCOM shoot for a Military model - http://www.BestKnives.com had'em
for $89.95. In the event that sale ended try http://www.NewGraham.com you
can get the Mili in S30V. Or if your watchin' the wallet I'd recommend the
Native :D Some other sites for price bargains come to mind -

http://www.JohnFJensen.com

http://www.1SKS.com

http://www.KnifeCenter.com

http://www.PVK.com

Not necessarily in that order. Myself I chose my EDC ( the SE Cricket )
based on -

* compactness

* weight ( hey, ya' don't wanna carry an 8oz ( that's a half pound! :eek: )
knife around all day, do you? )

* one handedness ( Spydies are all one-handed, generally speaking, but the
liner ( Walker ) lock give's Spydies large and small true one handedness.)

* blade length ( I go by the "four fingered" rule the cops generally use - in CT
the legal cutting length is not to exceed 4" - but the cops hold all the cards,
as Jerry Van Cook so eloquently put it ;) )

So, set your own "standard" for EDC, then shoot for the best price, using
the links above - and you'll have your EDC - not somebody elses.

Thanks for the info. My edc most of the time was the Vector then the Socom as well as the Amphibian, Kestrel, and UT-6. I like the Vector for its size. I have looked at the paramilitary I believe it is called, but didn't really care for the lock mechanisim used on it and the handle was a bit large for comfortable carry imho. I am looking to Spyderco because I need a new edc and MT dosen't seem to be in the manual folder business anymore. I recently moved and it is now illegal for me to carry an auto. Price really isn't a factor and I thought the Native seemed like a good buy for $50. Thanks again.

I carry a Native III as my EDC. I find it works very good for me, and highly recomend it to my friends as a good all around knife. I usually don't go for the FRN scales, but the way the Native is molded works very well in my hand.
Just my .02 worth.

Funnt thing, I'm getting an auto Vector soon :D If you're interested
in a manual action Vector check out -

http://www.MidwestGunExchange.com

They have'em in m/a for $206 shipped - but if it's the Native then
either -

http://www.BestKnives.com

or

http://www.NewGraham.com

would be a good place to look for one.

BTW - WELCOME ABOARD!!!
