Sorry for being late, but had to finish the drawing
As you can see, the blade is full flat grind, with a bit of belly. The hole is larger (13 up to 14 mm), without making the blade broader. Forget about the traction grooves on the thumbramp. I made this to my Delica and it was a mistake. Since I carry it mostly IWB, the grooves scratch my skin The Cobra Hood is a fine feature, but I don't think it would work here. Because of the forementioned reasons against traction grooves and also because it would rise the price, while Delica is targeted to a certain market segment. I don't feel the need for a thicker blade, in fact, with the full flat grind, the 2.5 mm thick makes it ideal for slicing. OTOH, I'd like to see it in S30V but I know it's not possible. Maybe a "Delica Extreme Edition", with G-10 handles
Speaking of handles, I modified them a bit, so they are closer to the pre '98 model, which seems to appeal more. Not identical, this would be a step backwards. Some washers would be a nice addition, but not indispensable. Since I admire the way the clip is mounted on the Calypso jr. I tried the same solution here. It would be tip down carry, but not necessarily a bad thing. A wire clip would be also fine. I remember someone posted at BF a Native III with the wireclip modified for deep low ride carry, basically he twisted the terminal portion of the regular wire clip at 180°. I guess this could be made here as well, somehow similar to the Meerkat's.
I am pretty satisfied with the current Volcano pattern, and I don't feel the need for a bidirectional texturing or whatever. Maybe some small traction grooves on the spine at the back of the handles (the way the Jester has), but nothing too obvious. What I'd do, though, is replacing the regular circle with the bug and "Clipit Delica" with a flat one, like the Native's. Maybe even a slightly concave one, it would help indexing.
Also, the lock has a modified Boye dent. I made this to my Delica, and I challenge anyone to try to unlock it just by squeezing the handles.
Just one last minute notice: I think the Delica is a great knife the way it is (in fact, a Delica IS my very EDC). But for the sake of changes, I exposed here some ideas of mine Many thanks to Mr. Glesser for this topic.

New lock? I prefer ballbearing and liner locks to front locking folders.

Two versions of the endura huh? sounds like an idea. If i could only change one thing, it would be adding the choil; As that couldn't possibly drive the price up very much. I do like the idea of an EnduraII with nicer handle materials (Carbon fiber, G-10, Micarta) Do that.

Here's my vision for the Endura...

Figure it would be logical to do the Delica the same way.

Deacon,

That is awesome! But no Boye detent on the lock?

What is it with people and the Boye Dent? Every once in a while, someone on this forum says he'd rather have the same Spyerco but without the dent? I think it's a nice asthetic touch and quite functionnal too. I'll agree it's unlikely that the average man will gorilla grip his Delica to the point of unlocking the blade, but the dent makes it that much unlikely. Why is it some people would like to see it go?

Jimmy, I can only speak for myself on this issue. I dislike the Boye dent for two reasons. The first is strictly a matter of taste. Unlike you, I find them aesthetically unpleasing because I feel they break the flow of the backstrap. The second is more important to me, but I realize I'm in the minority where this is concerned. I have arthritis in my hands and, at times they can be quite numb. I find the Boye dent, at least on some models, makes closing the knife very difficult. My CF Police is the worst where this is concerned, the dent is so large and deep that the lock-bar literally disappears into the handle when depressed enough to disengage the lock. When combined with its fairly heavy lock spring, this knife can be a real challenge for me to close on a bad day. My Delicas and Calypso Jrs. are nowhere near as difficult to manage, but I still find my micarta Calypso Jr. easier to close than either of my FRN ones. Perhaps if I actually believed that the dent made the knife safer, even if only for those users who will probably find some other way to earn their Darwin award, I'd just accept them, like the child-proof cap on my aspirin bottle, as a necessary evil.

I agree Deacon.I don't think it make a knife safer with out makeing it very hard to close.
I had a Native that done the same thing as your Police.I had to get my finger way back on the lock release and push it down as far as I could get it to unlock it.If I pushed it down as far as it would go useing the dent the lock would not fully release.
This was a pain when I was holding some up with my shoulder and the thing I was cutting in one hand and the knife in the other, needing to get it closed and put away so as to free that hand to be able to finnish what I was doing. When you are in a posision like that you don't need to be wondering why your knife is not closeing.

I wuz just wondering, Deacon...I've owned/own models both with and without the detent and can't really say that I prefer one over the other. However, I did find the Enduras I had with the detent were a little harder to release the lock on than the Delica and Dragonfly I had without it. I also never had a problem with accidental disengagement of the lock on those without it. Thanks for explanation!

how about taking the endura to a 5" blade...

With the redesign of the Delica and the Endura, what about adding a third size to the family? [Edited: Something about the same size as the Dragonfly, but with the Delica / Endura handle and blade shape].

Changes I'd like to see considered: bigger opening hole, and the different handle texture.

Changes I hope don't get considered: adding more belly, ala the Military ... sacrifices way to much general utility advantages, to get some niche advantages. Also, I find myself against a full flat grind -- realize, *I* would prefer a full flat grind, but Sal says they don't sell, and I don't want to accidently hose the delica/endura.

What I'd really like to see: an Endura LX, with G-10 handles and liner, and a ball bearing or compression lock. I really think the endura's overall design is so strong, that it shouldn't be limited to the entry-price market. Frankly, with the update described above, IMO the endura competes favorably with the Military, Benchmade 710, etc. Zillions of people find the Endura an incredible performer because of how useful the modified-wharncliffe blade shape is, and because of how compact the handle is (while retaining security/comfort), etc. It's a great design, time to give the endura its due!

Why not an Endura sized blade, with Dragonfly sized handles?....

I really like things the way they are now. A bigger hole seems popular, but I don't want the hump of the hole protruding further out from the closed knife than it does now.
Some bronze washers and an adjustable pivot would do for me. I'd like everthing else left alone.

If you must make a change/option to the Endura/Delica,,,,,Make the 50/50 blades blackened with OD FRN handles!!

If its gonna be bigger, why not go to a 5.5" or 6" blade? I'd buy one for my EDC. I had to get (company paid for)a Benchmade 630 to get another big folder. Sifu's were too poorly QC'd, the SOG is crap, and I already have a titanium Police. A BFE (Big Freakin' Endura) would be killer.

Steve, I agree that a higher hump would not be a good idea. The good news is that the daimeter of the hole on both the Endura and Delica can be increased from 12mm to 14mm without changing the outline of the blade, or the center point of the hole, just by increasing the radius. The only "side effect" would be a slight decrease in weight.

Deacon,
That's good to hear. I'd be happy with a bigger hole if the hump stays the same size..

Thanks Deacon and Smith about your reply(Boye Dent). Never thought that it could eb hard to unlock for some people and this is a legitimate request. I still think it's prettier than the lock of a Buck 110 for example, looks more refined.

Adjustable pivot pin and full flat grind - that's all.
