Damaged Delicia

Greetings & Salutations -

I have a bit of a problem. I just recently purchased a new Delicia Lightweight.

I have been using it in the field to cut various things. i.e. plastic box straps, paper, plastic, boxes etc...

Well today I noticed that the tip has "dissapeared" (broke off). Is this a common problem? The tip I noticed was very very thin due to the super sharp point.

I didnt use the knife to pry etc... so that couldnt have been the cause.

Well, what do I do? is there a way to maybe resharpen the point to restore a bit of a tip to it?

I do have a Sharpmaker 204 it that may help in anyway.

Please let me know what you all would recommend. Sal or anyone from Spyderco please chime in if you read this with your suggestions.

Best Regards

Matt

It depends on how much is broken off. You could either re-shape the tip from the edge, or taper it from the back. Maybe you caught a staple from a box? You could also check with warranty & repair. Good luck.

OUCH dude!
Was the missing tip serious enough to put your Delica out of commission? If it is a small nick, you can shape it back with the 204. I once had a problem with my Spydercard. This dude who checked it out had dropped my card tip-first causing it to flatten. I had to file it back to shape and finish it off with the 204. The feel may not be original, but the effort had surely saved my Spydercard's tip. If you have a completely broken tip, my suggestion is to pack it with the blade and send it back to Spyderco for warranty evaluation. The folks at Golden will be glad to take a look at your busted Spydie!

It is a very small break. Maybe 1mm of the tip is missing. No staples that I know for sure. Im thinking that it broke when I made pierced into a corrigated box... I was cutting off one of the flaps of the box. Maybe I had twisted the blade at the time of impact / cutting and it broke. That is about the heaviest use I have used it for so far.
