Who likes ONIONS?

#1

Post by DAYWALKER »

Aloha all!

I suppose this post is due to the assisted opening thread...

I very much like the feel of the Chive and Scallion. The Chive rusts very easily, so I rarely use it, but it has good ergo's for a lil' knife. Plus, it is fun to open!

Scallion feels the same w/ more gripability, obviously as it's just a bigger chive...I just got a red one as a gift, and the scale coat feels kinda gritty, not smooth. think it will easily scratch, so this one is staying in it's box.

Blackout...great handle and blade shape. Good "kick" when opened, not like my Scallion. But, it too is in my drawer...get the same amount of "fun" opening my Chive...

Anyone else like "Onions?"

I love his customs (though I've pretty much given up home of ever owning one - $$$). He's a great designer, though, and seems like a really nice guy from the few times I've chatted with him online.

I own a few of his Kershaws, including the Rainbow Leek, but they've pretty much been buried by Spydies these days. The ergos are great, but I find that the steel just doesn't compare. I'd be interested to try out a couple of the higher end models like the Bump (S30V). I even think I saw a blurb in a magazine about an S30V Leek...

I must say the engraving by CJ Cai shown on his web page is AMAZING! Especially considering those scales are titanium!!

I have the Chive and Blackout. I enjoy them both. They are well made and fun to open. They, along with a SE Rev.S Meerkat are my EDCs. Also, Son #1 has a Blackout and Son #2 has a Vapor.

I am very fond of my little black boron coated chive. It was give to me by Ken Onion at this year's IWA show in Germany. This makes this little gem a very special knife for me. As a knife I like the shape and size and the assisted opening. It lacks the "turbo charging" for aknife - Serrations. All my other knives except my CR Sebenza have serrations, as they provide the most aggressive cutting power one can wish for.

Clipits work!

I carry a Leek as a gentleman's pocket knife when I have to wear a suit and tie. Still slip a stainless Endura in the back pocket under the coat tail. The Leek is the only one folks get to see under normal conditions.

I have a Chive and I'm very fond of it. I'd love a version in Titanium handles and Stellite blade <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
BTW, Jur, I've seen Chives with serrations as well. Not the spyderedge™ we all love, with its alternating small and large dents, but just some dull, identical serrations. Looks more like a saw. But hey, they are serrations.

YES, Ken is one heck of a guy...also very helpful, when he's not creating someting in his shop, Heavy metal pounding in the background! I too, have given up ever owning one of his customs, but I am looking forward to owning some by Ceya and Dialex!

I've been into Kershaws for quite awhile .. Luv dem Onions ...!! No faster knife around ... Buy an automatic knife and do the speed test against a big Onion ... Pretty close .......

I've got my share of Kershaw blades, but the most collectible Onions IMHO are the Random Task knives ... regular and mini ... I had a heck of a time getting a deal on the mini, but finally ...

Have always enjoyed this design. Too bad Delta Z went out of business before Barnaby could finalize the collaboration.

Kershaw does the assists right. Spring doesn't kick in until it's half closed. Love the Leek for it's blade shape, but wish it had G-10 handles and better steel. The Random Leek is S30v,but it's not as pointy and the handles are still too smooth. They are awful fun to play w/though.

Tossing around the idea of putting some rubber on my Leek's scales. If it works out,I post pics.

I'd love a Random Leek with G-10 handles and nested linerlock (a la Military).
