Help please...

Post by JBE »

I have a few Spydies that I'm seriously considering putting up for sale on Ebay to help fund a ParaMilitary purchase. However, I've never put up anything for sale on ebay and was wondering if a few fellow forumites who have experience in this could "guide" me in the right direction. If anybody would be interested in one, email me for info. Thanks in advance!

Right now seems to be a good time.
One thing though, any future sales I do I will require imediant payment via pay pal.
I just sold one and but as a requirement in the description that paypal payment was due with in 24 hours of auction end.8 pm tonight will be 48 hours and I have still not gotten payment. The time before that it took almost 4 days for them to send payment. This would not be bad if they would at least let you know when they are going to send it instead of leaveing you hanging.

Medic,

I've been selling stuff on eBay with some success since about 1997. You could wite a book on the subject, but I'll give you a few hints:

1. Post pictures. Good ones. Auctions with pictures REGULARLY sell at higher prices than identical items without.

2. Write some glowing ad copy. Tell them all about the item. Don't just say "Spyderco. Good Condition."

3. Don't use a reserve price. Bidders hate them. Instead, start your opening bid at the bare minimum that you're willing to accept for the item, except in the case of #4:

4. If you know the item will be popular and will bid up quickly, start it at $1. Not only will this cost you less to start the auction, but people will start bidding on it immediately. The more people that bid on it, the more attractive the item looks to other bidders and the higher they will bid.

5. State exactly what you will charge to ship the item. Bidders hate not kowing if a seller is suddenly going to come up with extravagant shipping charges after the auction.

These are just a few pointers. Give it a shot, it's actually fun!

Don't post your phone #. And you may have to be patient w/some n00bs. Oh,and always check your buyers' feedbacks.

Medic, also, please offer to ship outside the US. There are several cheap options for shipping to at least Europe.

Good luck with your auctions!
