Sleep with your knife?

I know it sounds weird but I wasn't raised in a big city and now I live in one. Since my first night here, I've been afraid some guy might break into my appartement or something. So everynight wehn I go to bed, I know where there is a good fixed-blade next to my bed in case some noise wakes me up in the middle of the night. Anybody else feels the need to have a good knife by their side 24h a day?

Before we had kids, I'd sleep with my 9mm loaded at bedside. And truthfully, if we didn't have kids right now (I'm glad we do, though!), a firearm would be at bedside.
Nothing wrong with the extra security.

I have had a ss 'fly on me since aug 20, 01... the 2 times my beater one was out for a sheath I carried the engraved one.
Sleeping on a bed has my ribs hurting for a day or so after, so I sleep on the couch all the time. Most of the time I sleep fully clothed, including sweaters. That means full pocket and belt load.
My ss 'fly is in a neck rig 24/7, off for the shower only. And thats only because it's a pain to dry out every day.

What a relief to see it's a fairly common attitude. I agree a little extra protection in always a good idea. Do you have girlfriends(or wives) and what do they think of that? Ever had to use your weapons?
One time I heard someone unlocking my front door and nobody I knew had they key so my girlfriend asked me to go check it out. It was a guy sent by the landlord to see if we had roaches. I had enough time to hide the knife before he saw it because I would have scared the **** out of him. That was actually the only time in the 3 years I've been living here that I had to reach for it while in bed. Any other story?

I keep my SRKW Camp Tramp by my bed, a SS Cricket SE in pocket, and a Winchester Defender 12 gauge(8 shot) loaded up with slugs and 00 buck within arms' reach......just in case.

I, too, keep a large FB next to the bed (a wicked sharp K-Bar, to be exact). My wife doesn't mind, and actually thinks it is a good idea (I don't think she would feel the same way about a gun, though. Knives can't accidentally go off when fumbled for at 3AM).
I did grab it once in the middle of the night in our first apartment (OT:new homeowners now - whoopee!). She shook me awake to the sound of a hushed conversation going on in our living room. In the space of three seconds, I slipped out of bed, put on my glasses, unsheathed the KBar, and handed her the phone as I made my way down the hallway. I entered the living room, only to find...
Our TV on, playing some old B&W movie, and the cat sitting on top of the remote control on the coffee table (I think she walked over the power button and turned it on)! At least she seemed to be enjoying the film!

I've been wearing my Micarta SPOT everywhere but the shower for a few weeks now. Yep, even to bed.

I think Big Target can speak best about sleepin' with the knives....unless Mrs BT got suspicious and tossed his Glasshartt Delica.
I've been known to tuck the G10 Rookie SE in the waist band before retiring to the arms of Morpheus. When you talk nightstands and headboards though, I have about 100 Spydercos, 6 Voxes, a score of Delta Zs, both versions of the CRKT Spike, an Applegate-Fairbairn Combat, an M8A1 bayonet, Dacor Dive knife and an MOD Ladyhawk all within sleepy reach. (Sometimes it's painful just finding the bed.)

I've got at least a dozen or so knives on either side of the bed and a Glock 17 loaded with 18 rounds in the night stand at all times.

I sleep with my trusty Delica SE clipped IWB to my pyjamas. (OK, sometimes it's the Calypso jr.)
Not necessarily as an excess of protection, but because I like it

There's always a knife (CRK Sebenza) and flashlight (Arc LSL-S) on my night stand. Together with my keys and mobile phone.
Not for self-defense, but more a nice to have when something might happen ( fire / flooding / earthquake / armageddon / TEOTWAWKI ) Don't have a B.O.B yet

It is coincidence, but all my knives are displayed on a drawer besides my bed.
My knives are not meant for self defence. Nothing can happen.

This homegrown VoxHawk hangs on the wall right beide the bed. Even if I´m not at home, my wife can do some serious damage with this light sharp "instrument".

Strange you ask because I actually thought about that once. However I feel much safer with my S&W .357 than any knife ever made.

I keep an FB Temperance,a 5D Maglight, and a super-bright blue LED light by my bed. Used to keep a Vaquero Grande by the bed,but didn't want to mess w/opening a folder.
