The pop-up blocker that comes with the Google toolbar works very well. I've been using it for months with no problems and virtually no pop-ups.

I use an Apple Powerbook G4. Have not seen one popup since I bought it 5 months ago. Try downloading Mozilla Firefox and use this as your browser instead of IE. It has a popup block feature built in and is a simple, FAST browser. Next, download LittleSnitch. This is a program which will alert you to any program trying to contact your computer through your ports. It will also let you know when the programs on your computer are trying to "phone home" with any information about you. You are alerted in either instance and can allow the communication or not, it's up to you.

This one ROCKS:

htt ... ex.html

It works really well and it's completely FREE. Mine has killed 5708 pop-ups since I installed it (somewhere in 2003).

I concur with Google toolbar. Aside from the popup blocker, it has some other nice features too.

Yup, the Google one is what I recommend to everyone that uses IE on their PC.

BTW, another fun program to run is ADAWARE.

It will scan your PC for spyware. Try it, you'll be surprised what kind of crap is running on your machine.

I use Mozilla, a superior free opensource browser. I never see a pop-up!

www.mozilla.org They have the full Mozilla internet suite or a stand alone browser.

ZDNET, CNET.. You can get some really good pop-up killas there.. And also check your PC's registery editor.. Some of these nasty spyware may have been "embedded" in your PC, that's why you can get rid of them..

If your post is ROT, then take it where it is ROT, "Really on Topic" ie somewhere Spyderco is not discussed

I like the crowd here and enjoy an "off topic" discussion here and there. I've grown to respect the opinions of the members of this forum and therefore enjoy hearing their opinions on other topics, which are also often of interest to myself.

Maybe a geneticist can fill us in on the details, but a strong like for sharp slabs of steel seems to be a genetic trait that is linked to other traits such as firearms, sci fi, coffee (odd link), nice pens, cool watches, gadgets of all kinds, etc.

Just stop surfin' pr0n sites. That'll cut down on the amount of pop-ups dramatically. ;-)

Not for free, but Norton does the job very well.
