I 've heard that there is no such thing as a stupid question, so here goes, what is a stinger? Please kindly explain as much as possible.

I think the one you are most likely to have heard about is the shomer tec style self defence keyring type item (page 70 of the following document, it is huge though so takes time to download)

http://datacenter.ap.org/wdc/fbiweapons.pdf

Other alternatives are 1) a certain type of surface-to-air missile. 2)In the UK the strips of hollow spikes used to immobilse cars are known as stingers. I'm sure there are others I've not mentioned.

With regards to questions "don't ask don't find out certainly applies" so you're right there's no such thing as a stupid question.

"Better gear than good sense a traveller cannot carry."

edit : rubbish spelling

Go to James A. Keating, Master-At-Arms website. It is his invention. I have one and it is really slick self-defence tool.

SPORT, Your welcome.

SHARDS, Thanks for your web address on the Stinger. If you click under the second picture it takes you to Don Rearic's Article on the Stinger with a blow-by-blow description on how to use the Stinger by it's self and in conjunction with the use of the Spyderco Chinook. Good article.

There are also a lot of knives (fixed and folders) named "Stinger".
BTW I heard that the plastic impact tool you're talking about is prohibited in certain places...

Just about every tool imaginable is prohibited somewhere, it just depends on the relative stupidity of the locality’s 'benevolent' leadership, whether elected or dictated.

There is also a flash-light called a Stinger made by Streamlight.I do believe you're talking about a Com-Tech Stinger offered by James Keating as has been described in a previous post.tom.
