ROT: William Henry Pocket Knives...

#1

Post by Jenner 515 »

Borrowed a gentleman's William Henry the other day...Damascus Blade, seemed like a real Cadillac of a folder. Looked at their website...eegads. So...Any feedback? are they worth the price, or should I remain a tried and true Spydie for my next folder?

WH makes excellent knives. They have very high tolerances and super quality finishes.

They make knives for which there really are no comparable Spyderco designs(at least at this time)and definitely not comparable in terms of materials used for the handles. Shop around, there are many places to buy WH knives without paying MSRP. This should help mitigate the "egad" factor.

WHs are really nice, but at that price, I'd be afraid to use it. Moreover, I need a heartier folder, so they're out..--Joe

Believe it or not, Chris Kirk was peddling some exclusive WH knives on his show. They were made specifically for Smoky Mountain Knife Works and he was selling them at rock bottom prices. Now "mvpknife" on Ebay is selling what's left and they are going for big bucks. I'm kicking myself for not ordering them off the show a few weeks ago. Seems like Chris Kirk was selling them for around a hundred bucks (if memory serves).

My sweet wife gave me a William Henry for Christmas (Lancet, Black & Tan). It is gorgeous, and I really enjoy carrying it. Lightweight, smoooooth, and sharp. An exquisite EDC for a wide variety of occasions, but not for the field or shop.

Is it worth it? Well, yes, and you have to decide that for yourself.

Is a fine single-malt whiskey worth it? Is a well-crafted shotgun worth it? ...

How fortunate we are to be free to contemplate such questions!

Jenner 515 :

William Henry's a **** good make ; it's sad
to see the traditional pocketknife fall by the wayside in this age of "tactical" knives.
I meself collect the old stilletoes (manual, not auto ) and throw in an occasional Kershaw or something along those lines. Did you ever try :

www.Bladeforums.com

-or-

www.Knifeforums.com (?)

They have "general discussion" & sites
devoted to "makers" ( be warned : step "out
of line" with the seasoned veteran's ( otherwise known as "goldmembers"<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> and they'll cast you out in places like the "Whine & cheeze" forums )

Here's a "best buy" site :

www.eKnifeworks.com

Used to be Smoky Mountain Knifeworks ( still is, but they hadda catch up with the advent of the InterNet )

I don't think this is "Real Off Topic" ; more like "Kinda Off Topic" (KOT)

"All that is necessary for the forces of evil to win in the world is for enough good men to do nothing." Edmund Burke ( 1729-1797 )
