Hi all - from the U.K

Post by dskmanch »

I'd just like to say hi to the guys and gals on this forum. I've been browsing for a few weeks now and love the site to bits.

I am a huge fan of Spydercos and other high-quality knives and have been collecting knives for about 10 years now.

I'm from South Africa, but have been in England 5 years now. The laws are very strict here on what you can carry, so my collection is for my own admiration only.

Moreover, knife collecting is not something that's accepted here by the vast majority of people - they tend to see all knife admirers as some kind of deranged axe murderers, so I keep my hobby to myself. It is, therefore, brilliant to be able to browse sites like this and share my hobby/passion with others.

Regards

David

dskmanch,
Welcome welcome welcome.

So, which Spydercos do you have? Love to know what you Brits carry.

You can't have everything. And if you do, you're missing something.

Hi David and welcome to the forum. Always nice to see other UK Spyderfans here - even if you have been outbidding me for one or two nice items on Ebay
You'll find a lot of nice people here, with a huge amount of knowledge. Hope you enjoy your time here.
By the way, which models do you currently have?

Hi David and nice to have you,

I think there is a general distrust of knife people by those who don't share or understand the hobby. That often comes with the added bonus that having a knife on you is almost equivalent to having ill-intent in some circles.

They can be won over though. A girl I know was a little freaked out yesterday when she found out about the Calypso Jr. I had just got and started carrying around. She then spent the whole time flipping it open with the hole and closing it back again. The clip-it got some quality time in terms of attention too. I'm thinking that small knives win over non-knife people fast, I wonder if anyone has had a similar experience.

Thanks again everyone.

I'd be very interested to hear about your collections too.

Now if someone would please let me know how to do the spydie symbol and also add the smilies then I'll be sorted.

Welcome!

I wondered about the and , too.
Check out the thread from 30 Jan. by CKE on this forum:

OT: How do you get those faces/bugs etc??

Have fun!

dskmanch,
Nice collection you have. My collection is primarily Q's ( I see you have 2 ,which ones are they?) I have 18 variations at last count(counting the 5 color set as 1). I actually have a bever I'm trying to trade for another unique one I don't have. Besides that I mainly have unique co's that I plan to use for trading for Q's too. My common EDC's are: work - Ti Salsa/Grey Calypso Jr. weekends - Blue BFC Native/ Lil' Temp. I don't have any pics of the collection but I've stated a webpage for Q's http://home.comcast.net/~boxer93/q2.html
Enjoy,
Chris

Shiden - thanks for that

Chris - WOW 18 Qs. I have 2 of the same - the one with the spider in the blade (serrated edges). I've seen one on eBay.com with a blue handle - looks very smart.

I'm still trying to find an R - maybe one plain and one serrated if I come across them.

Take care
David
