New/old Spydie

I went to a knife and gun show this past weekend and found lots of Spydercos to drool over. Got to see the Persian and the Chinook II and have those on my wish list. But the knife I wound up getting was a NIB Wayne Goddard Lightweight PE C16BK. Those have been discontinued for some time but I've always thought they were a great design for a real working knife; plenty of handle to hang onto, yet flat enough to disappear in the pocket, excellent blade profile with a strong tip. Man, I was pleased to find it! I touched up the edge on my kitchen steel and now it's shaving sharp.
It's fun coming across these older model Spydercos from time to time. I'm still hoping I can find a new PE Rookie to replace the one I gave to a friend in Utah a few summers ago.
Anybody else have "a thing" for an older, discontinued Spyderco model? Some of these are gone but not forgotten because they're just too darn good.

I was probably there hunting down older Spydies as well. Went to the Costa Mesa Show, looking for nothin' in particular. Found an Almite PE Michael Walker Experimental 6, perfect,in black box for $60. Sometimes it pays to hunt.
Were you at the same show?

Yeah Swede, I was there Saturday. Who knows, we might have bumped into each other at one of the knife tables. Sounds like you got a nice find! Stay safe.

I realized I never answered your real question. I like many of the older models too. Probably my favorites are old Workers and Bob T's, both c15 and c19. Not too many around. I've bought some on ebay, but I like live shows so you can fondle a little before you buy. (That doesn't sound right!)
The Goddard you picked up is a great knife too, a real handful. Enjoy.

Funny you should ask. I just took posession today of a Jess Horn Ltwt. that will be seeing a lot of pocket time. I'd also love to get my hands on a Starmate, Walker and maybe even a Mouse. I have also admired the Goddard from afar for some time now. Just waiting for the right time to pounce on one.

Swede - you mentioned Costa Mesa. I used to live in Fountain Valley and then in Huntington Beach. But alas, that was long before I was a "knife guy". Too bad for me - it sounds like SoCal is a good good place to find some of the rarer models.

Hi JRH,
I live in Newport Beach, just down the coast from Huntington.
Actually, the gun and knife shows out here are plentiful, but mostly stuff you wouldn't look at twice. Most dealers just have current models, but every once and awhile...a bargain. I found an old Standard, with the clip punched out of the handle, in perfect condition, with red box, for 35 bucks. Not every day though.
Do you live in Manhattan? I know there's some big knife show there at least once a year, and I've heard there are some excellent knives to be had, or at least looked at.
Take care.

I made a mistake when filling out my profile, Swede. I live in the state of New York (not in the city of N.Y.) in the town of Lockport, just east of Niagara Falls. As for gun/knife shows, we have them around here - I just haven't been to one yet. My father-in-law is a retired LEO(and avid gun collector) and attends all of the local shows. I'm sure it won't be long until I hit my first show.

I've been looking for some shows in the So-Cal area. I haven't been collecting for long but am always on the look out.
On your question: I have a fetish, when the knife becomes discontinued suddenly I want one. I just bought a CF Civy, now I only need the other 3 CF models and a G-10 to have them all.

Civ - how many knives in your collection so far? All Spydercos or do you collect other brands too?

Good fetish to have, CIVILIAN.
Do you have the older Almite Civvies with the rubber inserts? The PE is especially hard to find.

I had an Origional Tufram Civy that I carried for most of ten years. It finaly hit the concrete and took the a lot of tip off. So i just bought another one on e-bau. I also found a C12RSCF and bought it. While I was looking for more info on it I found this forum.
So I have 1 and had 1, and wouldn't mind getting a few other Civie's. At this point I am working only on Spidy's, although I have other knives. I am forcing myself not to get caught up in others like kershaw, protech(sp).

I also have a G-10 milie, Micarta Calypso, and a merlin. And a G-10 Harpy coming in the mail.
