Pivot lint

I noticed a change in the lock up of my ss Delica today which turned out to be because of fluff in the lock. It set me thinking that of all my EDCs this is the only tip down one yet it is also the only one to suffer from fluff. It seemed that, logically, if the pivot is in a pocket (a la tip up) it would be more likely to collect stuff, yet this is not the case.

Is this just a random occurence or has anyone else noticed any correlation with mode of carry and stuff getting in to the lock mechanism?

I just picked up a lot of 8 Spydies off eBay(seizures from Californiagold2000). When the lock failed on one of the Ladybugs,I noticed it had crap in it and started to clean it out. It now works fine, but you guys would just not believe how much stuff came out of that little bitty knife. Also picked up a Wenger SAK off eBay that was so gummed up I had to send it back.

Yeah, pocket gunk can be a prob. I have noticed that I've been able to keep my knives cleaner by keeping my pockets clean. After my jeans come out of the dryer,I turn the pockets inside-out and use tape to remove the lint.

During our M-16 qualifications, we have to fire from the prone position, in a sand box which learned me of the big down side of CD! After the qualifications, out Navigator would not fully lock, due to sand in the pivot area! RKBA!

I have thought about this for a while and just posted this in the tip up thread. Then this thread pops up, imagine that.

"I prefer tip up for one particular reason, I get too much dust and just general gunk in the pivot of my Millie with it tip down. It tends to get gritty quickly, especially in the summer when working outside.

Has anyone else run into this, or have a solution?

BTW, I carry RF pocket 100% of the time."

After crawling around under the house and also hauling hay, it was disturbingly gritty. Although, it did clean up quickly and smoothed out quickly with a little Militec-1.

A quick cleaning solution is to blow out the lint and crap with compressed air, either from a air hose are some of that canned Keyboard air.

Found that my Leatherman PST has an attachment that is perfect for removing the stuff that collects in the lock. White Lightning reduces the amount that stays in the mechanism too.
