OT: NYS govt. bldgs
Deacon, what are those new regs. you are talking about in Albany NY regarding Govt. buildings with AET? Some times I have occasion to go to the VA hosp. there and I always in the past have had at least on spyder on me. As you have probably guessed I live in NYS also, be safe mjmcdowell

mj, I'd guess that the VA hospital is a Federal facility and, if so, would be under a different set of rules and regs.
The change I was talking about really only is a change for state workers. Security in state owned buildings got tightened for everyone after 9/11, metal detectors in some places, more places where access was restricted. The latest change really only has an impact on state workers who are not employed in The Capitol itself, putting them on the same level as visitors. Have to get in line and go though a metal detector, to get into that building. This is a particular nuisance for a lot of those who work in the State Ed building and park on the far side of Empire Plaza, especially in extreme cold weather like we had for the past week. They use to be able to just show state ID and walk through the concourse of Empire Plaza, through The Capitol, and only have a short distance outdoors. Now its either walk a longer total distance, with a greater part of it outdoors, to go around The Capitol, or put up with the delay to go through it. I work in Troy, rarely visit Albany, so no problem for me, just think the whole thing is overkill and this latest twist even more so.

mjmcdowell :
Thankfully, the VA in West Haven, CT ( Next
to New Haven ) hasn't introduced metal detectors (yet!) On my last visit, I carried :
SE Merlin
SE Navigator ( gunmetal almite )
This is NOT to say things could change...
Who says change is good!?!
