The Dodo was Eric's first design. He also engineered the ball bearing lock for the model. It was created to be small powerful general purpose cutting tool.

BTW, there is a sprint run in-the-works that I heard yesteday was getting closer.

Been a while since anyone posted to this thread, which has always been one of my favorites. So it needs a bump back to the top. Sal dropped an upcoming release timeline bombshell over on USN. Nothing too new, but a nice condensed chunk of information that I've seen bits of here and there across multiple threads.

Fluted Millie is out, buildig steadily, but behind.
Szabo - still developing lock
Tuff - finalizig texture - still have hopes for end of this year.
Techno - early 2012.
Sqeak - should be out early this summer.
Vallotin - should ship next month.

Urgh on the Techno - I think there are more than a couple of people itching to get hold of that sucker.

Szabo - its a pity that they can't just borrow the axis lock and be done with it :P. It least this way we might still stand a chance of it NOT being the compression lock. I am not a fan of that thing.

I just hope that in that time they don't fiddle with it...other than a left handed option, nothing needs to be changed on it as far as I can see. So waiting that long...urgh is right!

On the other hand....the Valleton...shipping next month, sa-weeeeet. (Not that I can afford it right now...but still, awesome, can't wait to try it out!)

Hey guys. I don't think anyone has listed some updates for the Chaparral.

- Deacon has received a finished piece and has posted an impressions thread.
- It has been mentioned that July of this year may see the Chaparral's release (click link below).
- It looks like the Chaparral will not only see different handle materials (ie. carbon fiber and titanium) but also different steels (ie. CTS-XHP and maybe, CTS20CP :D ). Check out Deacon's impression's thread and this one, too.

The biggest "unspoken" Bombshell is all the quality knifes Spyderco is having made in Taiwan.

Pekka FOLDER?? YESS!!!! Can't cait to see that one! To be totally honest, I was a little disappointed about the FB puukko looks... just my personal taste, that's all.

Regarding the Chaparral 2 and possible 3rd variation:

We have another design for Titan. We're considering a bolstered version with Mamoth tooth. Devin Thomas' son, Larrin lives here in Golden. We've been chatting with Devin. I imagine a DT Damascus is possible.

On USN someone asked if a Titanium Endura had ever been considered, to which we got:

I for one would love a Ti endura in lockback as in the Ti Delica for the Japan market. I'd be fine with a modified Endura with a framelock but that would not be my first choice. I love the lockback Enduras and can't get enough. First infected in 92, and the basic root of the Spyderco "issues" in my life. :)

By the way I'm hoping FFG would be the grind selected though VG10 is more than Fine. No upgrades needed there.

Want a bigger folder? In the thread about large folders:

While many prefer average size blades, we do recognize that there is a market for large folders and we've had many requests for same. We do have several in-the-works; a Szabo, Schempp Persian, Bison and one Peter calls "whatsitbig" for lack of a better name at this time. Blades in the 5" range.

Our U.S. production scheduling is very dynamic--especially in response to military orders and large-scale orders from federal agencies. Those dynamics bumped the production of the Yo2 from the Sep-Oct window to the Oct-Nov window.

N5 is reference to the Native 5. I guess because of the recent work with the back lock, he wants to take another look at the "real" Manix. :p
